Our worst first half performance by a long way, we looked a shadow of the team that has been steadily improving all season. We got bogged down by Whitchurch's physical, kick and rush style of play - they were content to keep passing to a minimum and launch long balls up to their big striker. This style suits their personnel and they do it well, they are the first team we have met so far this season that managed to stop us playing our passing game. The ball spent more time in the air than any other match I can remember this season.
We went a goal behind - deservedly so as Whitchurch were the better side at this point - as a cross was turned in by our defender for an unfortunate own goal.We levelled when Danny Gibbins went past 2 defenders in the box and was pushed just as he was about to strike - Penalty. He picked himself up and slotted the spot kick for 1-1.
We were behind again within 5 minutes as a mix up at the back allowed a ball, that should have been easily cleared, to run through and their striker gobbled it up - that just added to the problems as we struggled to get our game together.
A pattern is emerging from the last 2 weeks as the last 5 goals we have conceded were from our own mistakes - this will need to be adddressed if we want to compete with the top teams.
2-1 at half time and cue the biggest rollicking I have ever dished out - I told the boys if I had 10 subs the entire outfield would have come off!!! They were told in no uncertain terms that the second half MUST be better - And it was.
The introduction of Chris Viney made a difference up front - his pace asked more questions of their defence and Matty started linking well with Chris down the right. Danny and Steffan began to come into the game more - getting on the ball more, probing and passing - penning Whitchurch inside their own half. The game now was more suited to us as we had the lions share of the possesion and kept it on the deck. Whitchurch were limited to counter attacks - though still dangerous with their big, pacy striker but less frequent - Sam Azu was now doing a great job sticking tight to him.
Will now became more involved down the left, linking well with Steffan and this was where the next goal came from.
We levelled again through Steffan as Will put him in and he went past their left back , cut inside and sent a cross - cum - shot across the face of the goal and their keeper - who had a great game apart from this little rick - failed to hold it and it went in.
We took the lead for the first time in the match with a great move. Ther ball was sent across to Matty, who went down the line, cut inside and sent a drilled cross right across the 6 yard box that evaded everyone except Danny eho slid in at the last minute to win us the match with his second goal of the game.
We must learn form this - we got out of jail today. On the first half performance we probably didnt deserve to win, but the reaction in the second half was pleasing and I started to recognise my players once again!

A decent performance but we gave ourselves a mountain to climb by conceding a goal in the fierst couple of minutes - we were half asleep and allowed a through ball to run - lack of communication and 'after you' had us 1 nil down straight away!
To their credit the boys picked themselves up and started to play. Marlboro had slightly more possesion but we were passing the ball well when we had it and the game was tight.
Chances were at a minimum in the first half but Charlie had a great effort from distance - it looked in all the way - until it seemed to rise late and went over the bar.
1 nil at half time and all to play for.
Marlboro came out for the second half really going for it and penned us in for the first 5 mins. We weathered the storm though and the game reverted to a similar pattern to the first half.
We were undone by a 5 minute spell of Marlboro excellence that we couldnt quell - a double whammy and it was 3 nil.
We kept playing our football and never got our heads down, which is a trait we have learned this season to the boys credit, we still had our share of the ball and gave a good account of ourselves.
In summary we shot ourselves in the foot conceding the early goal and never fully recovered but there is no shame losing to this team - they are so well drilled and have no real weaknesses.

The match started off really close with both teams passing the ball and attacking as much as possible. The pitch was awful with craters in the middle and extra long grass down the flanks which really stopped our speedy widemen playing their usual game. It was the same for both teams though and we kept plugging away.
After a close 15 mins we began to take control and created chance after chance - Danny, Matty, Sam Willis and Steffan all having efforts on goal but it remained 0-0. Lloyd and Caine were looking unbeatable in the centre back positions and when they did manage an attack one of these two snuffed it out. Swabes was having a blinder down the left linking well with CB, as were Matty and Josh down the right. If it wasnt for the long grass these guys would have had even more joy.
Completely against the run of play Llanedeyrn took the lead on 25 mins - a great goal from Joel Brown from outside the box that left Bradley with no chance.
Halftime it was 1-0 to Llanedeyrn and we were thinking about last week - surely not again!!!
We started the second half 100 mph and Steffan's shot hit the bar, rebounded to Danny who chested the ball goalwards but their keeper, James, saved.
Another effort moments later as Chaz got hold of the ball on the left corner of the area and hammered a shot that James saved excellently again.
A pattern was emerging as were spending so much time in their half - they could only counter attack occasionally.
More efforts from Danny, Sam Willis Chris Viney couldnt beat James - who was having a great game in goal.
Finally the breakthrough came as the ball dropped to Sam Willis on the edge of the box and he sent a looping shot over James and it was 1-1. This seemed to release the shackles and we now took control - Chaz and Steffan were owning the middle of the park and Sam and Danny up front were running them ragged. Danny received the ball on the penalty spot sidestepped his man and drilled a left footed shot into the bottom left hand corner for 2-1!
It was 3-1 soon after as Llanedeyrn failed to clear their lines and we sent a testing ball in that they put into their own net.
Danny was buzzing now and couldnt get enough of the ball and grabbed his second goal as Matty hit a cross-cum-shot that Danny diverted past the keeper for 4-1. Danny rounded off a great morning's work completing his hatrick - first having his shot saved, receiving the rebound and cooly slotting it past a goal line full of defenders for 5-1.
Another great display and this time getting the deserved victory well done boys!

A defeat that was difficult to swallow. We were the better side for long periods, had to retake a converted penalty - and missed - and generally had no luck all match!
We started brightly and quickly had Rhiwbina on the backfoot with our passing game and looked the more likely. They were defending well and kept us at bay but we kept playing. Somehow we found ourselves a goal down at halftime - somewhat controversially as we felt, in the passage of play that led to the goal, the ref missed a clear offside that would have allowed us to clear our lines. By now some of the tackles that were flying in were a little over physical and the young ref was really struggling to keep control.
We went out for the second half and continued to play well and should have had a penalty when Sam Willis ran at the defence, knocked the ball past his man and was taken out but the ref let it go!
2 Mins later and a good move lead to us actually being awarded a penalty. A great ball into the box and Danny was on to it like as flash, nudged it past the keeper and was brought down for a clear penalty.
Up stepped Chaz to stroke it into the bottom left hand corner for what we though was 1-1, but the ref ordered a retake - stating encroachment - and it was unfortunately missed. There was encroachment once again but the ref decided against a 2nd retake for reasons that escaped me!
Within 5 mins they went 2 nil up with a magnificent goal from Scott, he beat Bradley from 25 yards out with a belter of a shot.
The last 15 mins felt as if they would just clear the ball to us and we would just mount attack after attack - but we couldnt score!
A bad result that was more down to poor refereeing than anything else - the penalties that werent, the bad challenges that went unpunished and no luck on our side whatsoever.
I take positives from this match more than negatives though, as we played really well, stood up to the physical side of Rhiwbina and proved that we can be up there with the best.

What a match! We came from behind 3 times and equalised with the last kick of the game - a truly epic match that really was a great example of how strong this A Division is. The match was 0-0 for most of the first half but The 'Buns had had more of the ball. We were giving them no time or space and our defence was looking strong. They took the lead after around 30 mins - we failed to get heads on a corner and it dropped on the edge of the 6 yard box and it was 1-0. It didnt last long though as Daniel Gibbins played a hopeful ball into space for Sam Willis to run onto - They were indecisive and Sam got his reward for a great performance taking it around the keeper and making it 1-1 at half time.
The second half was closer, we came into the game more and might have taken the lead - Charlie Foulkes hit a screamer of a free kick inches over the bar from 25 yards. They re-took the lead with a debatable goal - Our keeper Bradley Preece had been awesome all match and got both hands behind a shot and stopped it right on the line, the ref was close to the action and deemed the ball over the line and gave a goal - much to Bradley's dismay!
Once again their lead didnt last long as a ball was fizzed across their box, Caine Morse shot, the keeper parried but Daniel Gibbins reacted first to dink a left footed shot over the keeper to make it 2-2.
They came at us stronger then - they hit the bar and had us penned in for a while, but our defence was looking impressive and we caught them with the offside trap time and again - great line boys!
They took the lead for a 3rd time with a through ball that caught us out, Bradley Preece came steaming out but their striker got a foot to it, squaring it to his team mate who passed the ball into an empty net for 3-2 and everyone thought that was it.
HOW WRONG WE WERE! With seconds left impressive sub Chris Viney got hold of a stray pass, weighted a beautiful ball to the overlapping Caine Morse who cooly slotted into the bottom left hand corner for 3-3 with the last kick of the game!
In my eyes we took a massive step forward today - we would have lost this match last season - but now the belief is back and so is the determination.
Well done boys - a great result against one of the best teams around.

A disappointing result from a performance that deserved better. Quite simply Maindy took their chances and we did not. An evenly contested first half saw us have the better chances. Charlie Foulkes, Danny Gibbins, Steffan Prytherch and Chris Viney all had efforts well saved by the keeper. The save from Charlie's rocket of a shot was the pick of the bunch - I had a great vantage point as he hit it and it was in all the way, until the keeper sprang into action and made an excellent save.
The match was 0-0 at half time and remained that way until 10 mins into the 2nd half. A ball into the box was flicked on and deflected past Bradley by one of our defenders - a really unfortunate way to go behind. Unfortunatley this affected us for 10 mins or so - and before we got ourselves back together they hit us with a double blow inside 10 mins and it was 3-0 from nowhere! After that the match returned to it's previous theme - evenly contested and end to end. We might have had a couple of penalties on another day and could have made the scoreline reflect the play more with several chances late on - but unlike last week when we scored almost every time - we just werent clinical enough.
Maindy deserved the victory but I think they would admit the scoreline flattered them. They showed us that if we want to be up there again this season we must take our chances and react to conceding a goal by gettting straight back at the opposition.

A ruthless, clinical performance from the boys. Not words usually associated with our team but Im hoping will be used more this season - we were simply outstanding.
The first goal was an own goal, then Chris Viney gave a master class in goalscoring - 5 goals today- including a magnificent solo effort beating 5 players to score that was breathtaking. Daniel Gibbins was having a good game playing off Chris and created 2 goals for him and had a hand in a two others before an injury cut his game short - within 2 mins of the restart he had to come off, with Ryan Butler coming on to score 2 goals later on. Will Fry grabbed a first half goal before making way at half time for Daniel Swabey who came on to score 2 himself.
Matty Yeung once again gave a great performance, energetic and full of positive play.
Callum and Josh were great in the full back positions and Lloyd and Caine had their strikers shackled all game. Charlie scored 2 today, including a well taken penalty, and ran the show from the centre of the park.
Sam Willis gave an energetic performance alongside him and grabbed a well deserved goal.
Well done once again boys - it gets a lot harder from now on and we must kick on form this great start.
Special Mention:
Chris Viney - 5 goals and a great performance up front. Well done mate!

I Couldnt have asked for a better start from the boys - everyone looked sharp, up for it and confident. Marlboro started brighly themselves too - and forced our keeper Bradley Preece to touch a long shot onto the bar early on. We soon took control though through a superb goal from Steffan Prytherch - cooly switching feet, from right to left, on the right hand corner of the area and bending one into the bottom corner.Matty Yeung was terrorising them every time he got the ball and they just couldnt handle him - he was having a dream debut.Skipper Charlie Foulkes made it 2 nil with a trademark pile driver from the edge of the box - we were really 'at it' now as Will Fry picked out Daniel Gibbins on the penalty spot and he cooly dispatched for 3 nil.
3 Nil at half time made for an easy team talk - more of the same boys, keep going!
And they did - Daniel Gibbins scored a second chasing a lost cause that the keeper spilled and he reacted to score. Chris Viney scored a screamer from 25 yards and Daniel Swabey deflected home to complete a 6 nil victory.
A great start boys - well done.
Special mention:
Matty Yeung - a fantastic debut and a really talented player, welcome to the club!

Our final game ended in defeat, although we played some really good football. We went behind early doors following a defensive mix up on a corner, which had us on the back foot straight almost straight away. You could see that this game really had no meaning to us, and the after effects of losing our chance to win the league in such dramatic fashion in our previous match were still raw. We played some great stuff at times with Will Fry, Sam Willis and Daniel Gibbins linking particularly well down the left. It stayed 1 nil going in at half time.
The second half was similar to the first with St Albans just shading it, but we were passing the ball well and were looking for that chance to equalise. Around 10 mins in they made it 2-0 with a well taken shot from the edge of the box, but we still kept playing. Soon after conceding, Daniel Gibbins went on a tremendous run - beating 4 players before being hacked down in the box - this was a stick on penalty to me - but the ref waved play on. With 15 mins left I made several changes to ensure evreyone played in our last game, St Albans made it 3-0 and sealed their victory. Substitute Sam Azu grabbed a deserved consolation goal for us late on and we ended the season by scoring the last goal at least!
I wonder if that penalty shout had been given - and had we scored it to make it 2-1 - what the final result might have been. In all honesty the better team on the day won.

This was a big game for both sides with both teams well placed to win the league if they won their remaining fixtures. This was a great match from the off - I'm sure any neutrals watching thoroughly enjoyed it (my blood pressure didnt!!!) and both sides created chances early doors.
We started to have the edge and got a well deserved lead when Sam Willis pounced on a bouncing ball in the box and hammered an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
We continued to press but got caught napping at the back and Marlboro equalised with a well taken goal from Jake.
This was prooving to be every bit as tight as I predicited - there were battles all over the park and no-one was giving an inch.
We took the lead when Daniel Gibbins contolled a high ball excellently, held it up with his back to goal and teed up Will Fry who's shot took a bit of a 'bobble' and went into the corner. A nice moment for Will against his former team.
2-1 at half time and we deserved it - I told the boys to keep playing their passing game and 35 more mins of maximum effort could just be enough to win this one.
We went out and carried on where we left off and it was looking good - Sam Willis was working hard on the right, Charlie Foulkes and Caine Morse were controlling the midfield and the once again impressive Steffan Prytherch was becoming the catalyst for all things good. Steffan capped a great individual performance by putting us 3-1 up with a great shot from the edge of the box - the wind holding the ball up just enough to drop it under the bar.
We then took our foot off the pedal slightly - possibly due to tiredness and partly thinking we had done enough to win already - and Marlboro really started to pressure us.
It became apparent that the last 20 mins were going to be extremely tough. Marlboro began launching balls over the top for their big centre forward, Aled, to latch onto and this made our defence uncomfortable. Time after time the ball was hit high over the top but our central defenders Ellis Dunsford and Lloyd Richards got a head on it or cleared well.
The inevitable happened and we got caught - a ball over the top evaded keeper Bradley Preece and Aled tapped into an empty net for 2-3.
Minutes later Bradley Preece pulled off a brilliant save, down to his right, to deny Marlboro an equaliser.
Marlboro continued to come at us - they were in charge now - and more uncertainty at the back - failure to clear our lines, saw the ball drop to Nick who shot excellently into the top left hand corner to level it.
We had a chance to regain the lead, when impressive substitute Christopher Viney, burst through and as he swung his boot the ball took a nasty bobble - forcing him to mis-hit his shot wide.
Queue what I now call the 'Dynamos Panic' - when a team of good footballers forget everything we talked about pre-match and half time - and lose all self belief - allowing the opposition to pen us in and lay seige on our penalty area. This allowed Marlboro to snatch victory with only 10 mins left.
That said, the Marlboro winner was truly magnificent - another long ball found Aled, who shrugged off two defenders, took the ball on the run and lashed a thunderbolt into the top right hand corner.
In truth, we were unlucky to lose this one, but you cant argue when a team comes back from 1-3 down to win 4-3 and if the roles were reversed I would be over the moon.
Mark's boys did him proud - as did mine - and If we now can't win the league I hope that Marlboro do, they have the great combination of talent, pace and power and can adapt their game better than any other side we have faced this season.
Special Mentions -
The whole team - Boys you were fantatstic for 75% of the match - 6 games in 12 days (including 5 wins) maybe took its toll towards then end. We just need to believe that little bit more and learn to keep calm under pressure - it's all there, you just need to BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES!!!

Pentwyn Dynamos 4 - 3 Fairwater
Gibbins (3)
Swabey
Before the match I must admit I was concerned. We were without Steffan, Will and Caine - 3 big players for us who all would have started. A quick juggle of players/positions and it was a case of 'lets see what happens....'.
The boys went out and played some breath taking football in the first 10 mins and we took the lead when a great ball over the top from Sam Willis was tracked by Daniel Gibbins who superbly lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box.
We continued to press and were 2 nil up 5 mins later - a Daniel Swabey shot was half saved by the keeper and Daniel Gibbins pounced on the rebound.
Danny was really looking the part today and completed his hattrick with an excellent goal - played through from the corner of the box, racing onto it and - as the keeper came out - drilled the ball into the top left hand corner for 3 nil.
The boys were really going for it and it was 4 nil 5 mins before half time as Daniel Swabey poached after uncertainty from Fairwaters keeper.
Fairwater grabbed what looked to be a consolation goal - with a superbly struck shot from the edge of the box- just before half time making it 4-1.
Daniel Gibbins had a 4th goal chalked off for offside - an incorrect decision as I was in line with him and he was clearly onside - but these things happen and at the time it seemed unimportant.
How wrong I was! The second half was a completely different story. Fairwater came at us time and again and inevitably scored again to make it 4-2. We allowed them to pen us in and had to defend for our lives at times - but they still managed a third goal, controversially as the impressive Ellis Dunsford cleared off the line but the ref gave the goal. Several spectators stated after the game that the ball didnt cross the line - but these things happen!
At 4-3 the boys became panicked and clearances were missed and we put ourselves under needless pressure, but we kept battling.
At 4-3 the boys became panicked and clearances were missed and we put ourselves under needless pressure, but we kept battling.
We squandered 2 good chances - late on - to put the game beyond them and they continued to press us.
Our keeper Bradley Preece made 3 magnificent saves to protect our lead late on - a double save from point blank range and a brave save with his legs as their strikers challenged.
We defended well enough with bodies blocking shots and last ditch clearances to take the points.
Special mentions:
Daniel Gibbins - a superb hattrick taking his tally to 17 goals in 20 games.
Callum Patten - played out of position, battled all day and really enjoyed it!
Ellis Dunsford - another who played out of position and did really well.

Pentwyn Dynamos 7-1 Thornhill Athletic
Willis (2)
Fry (2)
Foulkes
Gibbins
Butler
An excellent performance from start to finish. The boys played some great football and opened the scoring on 20 mins with a magnificent goal from Charlie Foulkes - a thunderbolt from 25 yards that nearly broke the net!
Once we got one, we knew we would get a few more as we took control of the game. It was 2 nil in no time as a ball over the top was latched onto by Will Fry who judged the bounce and - as the keeper advanced -executed a beautifully measured lob.
Unbelievably they left Will free a couple of minutes later and he once again ran onto the ball over the top and lobbed him for a carbon copy of his first goal!
4 nil came just before half time as Sam Willis received the ball on the edge of the box and slotted into the bottom left hand corner.
We continued to play our football throughout the second half and - with the game already won - started to enjoy stroking the ball around, every player wanting the ball and most of the time receiving it!
Sam Willis completed his brace to make it 5 nil with around 25 minutes left and I made a few substitutions over the next 5 mins- enter Sam Azu, Ben Price, Ellis Dunsford and Ryan Butler.
All 4 players got right into the game and we picked up where we left off. It was 6 nil soon after as a throughball was latched onto by Daniel Gibbins who coolly chipped the keeper as he advanced.
Thornhill werent finished though and pulled one back as we relaxed a little bit too much- to keep us on our toes.
Ryan Butler completed the route making it 7 nil and an all round great performance.
Special mentions:
Charlie Foulkes and Steffan Prytherch in midfield - these two clearly enjoy playing together and its working wonders for us!
Sam Willis - two great goals (4 goals in 2 games mate - well done)
Will Fry - 2 deft finishes and a great display wide left.
Ryan Butler - another goal (3 in 2 games - you are really improving and it doesnt go unnoticed)

Thursday 20th April 2010
Our 5th match in 10 days - and it looked like it! short on numbers and missing 4 first team regulars but we started well and were 2 nil up inside 15 mins with goals from Ryan Butler and Sam Willis. It went stale from there - either the boys thought it was going to be easy and stopped giving it 100%, or playing catch up on our fixtures is taking its toll. I believe it was somewhere in between.
Fair play to Thornhill - they sensed this and started to have a go at us - and got their rewards - it was 2-2 within 5 mins of our second goal going in!
This shook us up momentarily and we resumed playing our football - briefly- just long enough for the impressive Ryan Butler to grab his second. His first touch looked too heavy but he showed great pace to catch up and slot it past the keeper.
We switched off again and Thornhill made us pay making it 3-3 just before half time.
The second half was an exercise in 'long ball'. Thornhill bombarded us every time they got the ball - lumping it up the field and constantly putting us under pressure. The boys could not resist the temptation to 'lump it' back! We must learn that in these games you cannot get sucked into such tactics and must continue to play our football regardless.
When we did attempt to pass it the pitch didnt help. In the boys' defence this may be why we played the long ball so much as the pitch was rock solid with very little grass. We managed to secure the 3 points when the ref played an advantage - albeit in unorthodox fashion!- following a clear handball, the ball ran through to Sam Willis who poked home the winner.
We were lucky to win this one - Thornhill did enough for a point - but the cliche says good teams lose even when not at their best, so I will stay positive.
Its Thornhill again - this time at home - on Thursday and hopefully we will have our full squad back and put in a better peformance.
Special mention:
Ryan Butler - full of energy and his first goals for the club - well done Ryan!
