A good performance from the boys Today against a decent Ty Celyn side. We controlled the game from start to finish and would have scored alot more if it wasnt for some great defending from Ty Celyn - they got their blocks in, bodies in front of shots, heads to crosses and protected their keeper well.
After a close first 10 minutes we took the lead through Kieran - a well struck long distance effort that looped over the keeper and into the back of the net. Within minutes it was 1-1 - as we were caught napping at the back and allowed their man to get into our box - albeit with as strong suspicion of handball - and they levelled with a tap in from a low ball across the goal.
We had to make an early substitution as Josh was feeling unwell, so on came Ryan Pomeroy to play at centre back - a position he had never played before - but you would never have known as he went on to have a magnificent game! Alongside the ever reliable Ellis who organised the back four excellently Today and looked rock solid.
We were soon back in front when Will got on the ball and dribbled through their defence and finished with a lovely low shot - that initially we thought had gone wide as the nets werent pegged down well enough - but thankfully it was in!
We started to take control of the game now and Charlie was bossing the middle of the park, Sam was working hard alongside him and Chris was getting at their left back down the flank. Danny and Kieran were starting to cause them problems with their movement up front and the two combined for our third goal - a through ball from Kieran for Danny to chase and he made no mistake chipping the keeper from the edge of the box for 3-1.
To their credit Ty Celyn kept going and caught us with a counter attack to make it 3-2 and at half time it was still a close match.
The second half was a different story - we stepped it up and played practically the entire second period in their half, I can only remember them having one shot on goal.
Kieran was causing them all sorts of problems, Danny was pulling the strings and Daniel Swabey came on and really got at them down the right, linking well with Matty. Our width was a feature of our performance with Callum and Will doing the same down the left.
Kieran was causing them all sorts of problems, Danny was pulling the strings and Daniel Swabey came on and really got at them down the right, linking well with Matty. Our width was a feature of our performance with Callum and Will doing the same down the left.
We soon made it 4-2 with probably the goal of the game - A huge long throw from Chris was flicked on by Charlie and Danny hit a stinging volley into the bottom right hand corner.
Charlie had a little altercation with their number 16, who seemed to think he was playing rugby - a telling off from the ref seemed to spur him on - he stepped it up and from here on was excellent. He was everywhere, getting on the ball and effecting the game further up the pitch - reminding us that although he is a great defensive player - he can attack with the best of them too!
We created chance after chance but Ty Celyns defence were somehow managing to keep the score down as we laid seige to their goal.
Ben Pomeroy came on for Will and made an instant impact - exchanging passes with Callum and forcing the keeper to make another good save. He played really well from there on - always looking a threat, using the ball well and tracking back to cover Callum in defence.
Our fifth goal was a nice one also - Daniel Swabey getting down the right, to the byline and sending over a cross for Charlie to nod in. Swabes finished off the scoring himself by getting on the end of a cross deflecting past the keeper to make it 6-2, a deserved goal as he had worked so hard all second half.
A good all round display Today - a 6-2 victory that should have been more - Danny might have had a hatrick but a ball across the goal sat up at the last minute - he still managed to get his shot on target but the keeper made a great save to deny him.Charlie charged through into the box several times but the keeper made saves or they manged to get a last ditch tackle in to stop him. Kieran had several shots well saved also but Ty Celyns defence did them proud.

Pontcanna
Fairwater 1 - 1 Pentwyn Dynamos
R. Fry
A tight game with few chances that neither team really deserved to win. The first half was a case of sounding eachother out and playing it careful. It was clear both sides didnt want to go behind and it was 0-0 at half time - a fairly uneventful first half. Our defence had looked fairly solid despite conceding - Josh in particular having another good game.
I did have a few issues with the referee rarely penalising foul throws one minute - of which Fairwater commited many and us few - then in the next it was all by the book.
The second half was slighly better and although we had more clear cut opportunities we went a goal behind after a teasing high ball was spilled by Bradley in our goal and the Fairwater striker reacted quickest and finished well to give them the lead.
Sam sent a lovely ball through for Danny, who forced a good save from the keeper and we started to look like getting back into it. Sam had a decent shot himself from outside the box but hit it just wide.
Chris was getting forward more and more and his pace was giving Fairwater a few problems, but they were defending well and looked dangerous on the break.
I wondered if making a few changes might spark a revival - so on came Ryan Fry, and the Pomeroy brothers, Ben and Ryan - who made an instant impact with their pace and fresh legs.
With 10 minutes left Charlie got on the ball and bulldozered his way into ther box and hit a gret ashot taht was well saved by the keeper. Ryan Pomeroy pounced on the rebound but it was well blocked - but the ricochet fell to Ryan Fry who cooly slotted home for the equaliser.

Pentwyn Dynamos 2 - 3 Canton Rangers

This was always going to be a close one, we had played Canton a couple of weeks back and knew they were a good side and won with a flattering 5-1 scoreline.
We couldnt have started this match better - we were passing the ball around, moving it quickly and creating space. We looked solid at the back - Josh in particular was again having a great game, along with Ellis playing his usual cool, calm and collected game, Matty was working hard as ever up and down the right.
In midfield Sam was working tirelessly, chasing down and when in possession using the ball well, Charlie was bossing the midfield and Chris was everywhere - and his long throws were proving to be a great weapon.
It was a great throw form Chris that created our first goal - a quick long throw down the right to Kieran, who cut inside his man and finished well as the keeper advanced.
It was soon 2 nil - as another great long throw to Kieran, saw him tee up Danny who curled a lovely right footed shot into the top left hand corner from the edge of the area. These 2 up front were really starting to gel - and were linking up with Chris regularly now. Sam and Chris were overlapping down the right and Kieran and Danny looked likje grabbing more goals.
Callum went a superb weaving run taking on 3 or 4 defenders and slotting the ball home of the far post - but the ref disallowed it - saying Kieran was offside and interfereing with play by running across the keepers line of vision - extremely harsh in my view!
We were in complete control and it might have been so many more - Charlie hit a shot from 25 yeards and hit the post just as the ref blew for half time. It should have been more but 2 nil wasnt too bad.
There was only one team going to win this game and I told the boys at half time to go out and win the game again in the second half.
I couldnt have been more wrong - in the second half we stopped doing all the things that had us bossing the first half - we didnt chase down, we didnt compete for the 50/50s - they wanted it more and gradually they took control.
it was soon 2-1 as Canton deservedly got back into the game. We were visibily shaken by this and they smelt blood. They upped their game as their belief grew and within 20 mins of the second half it was 2-2.
Apart from a 5 min period at the start we were never in the second half and Canton completed an impressive comeback with 15 mins left.
We should have put this to bed in the first half and paid the price in the second, Canton deserved the win in the end but we shouldnt have given them the chance!
This A Division is so strong now that - St Albans apart - anyone can beat anyone on their day and every game is a real battle.

Saturday 15th October
Tongwynlais
Under 14 A Division
Maindy Corries 1 - 2 Pentwyn Dynamos
Williams (2)
A evenly contested first half saw both sides playing some good football. We created several good chances - Danny shot over, as did Chris and Kieran. Callum had a great effort well saved by Chris in the Maindy goal and he did the same again minutes later from Charlie's free-kick.
Maindy took the lead against the run of play through a well taken goal - though I was inline with the striker when the ball was played an he was clearly a yard or more offside - but the ref was in the centre circle and couldnt tell from there.
Half time - 1 nil down but still in it.
We went out for the second half and upped our game. Chris began to impose himself on the midfield, bursting through and supporting Kieran - who himself was becoming more of a threat. New boy Ryan came on and made an instant impact - as did his brother Ben who came on shortly after him.
We equalised through Kieran as he burst through to go one-on-one with the keeper, he waited for him to commit himself and cooly slotted home.
We nearly went ahead when Chris flew down the righ hand side and fizzed a lovely ball across the 6 yard box - Danny was at full stertch but his sliding shot went just wide.
We should have had a penalty - I wont see a more obvious one all season - but the ref refused to give it, despite Kierans goal bound shot being stopped by the defenders hand way above his head.
We were really playing well now and deservedley took the lead in almost identical fashion to th efirst goal - Kieran went through and dinked it past the keeper for 2-1.
At this stage the game became really stretched and we really could have scoerd 3 or 4 more - Kieran hit the post, Chris shot narrowly wide when clean through and Chris made several good saves as Maindy were just keeping themselves in it. Chris had a great game in goal for Maindy, he really is one of the best keepers around and he proved it Today.
We came away with another win - thats 2 in a row - and we are starting to look like our old selves again. Josh had an excellent game at the back for us - he was always in the right place and never panicked - did all the right things at the right time. When Maindy did threaten Josh - along with Ellis, Matty and Callum were a solid unit and we never really looked in trouble. Chris had a magnificent second half and Kieran is quickly becoming a real asset to us with his pace and power.
Another difficult match awaits this Saturday as Canton come to us looking for 'revenge' after we won at their place last week. We will need to be as good as we were today to beat them.

Training will now be 5.30 - 6.30pm as the nights are drawing in - still on Thursdays at Pontprennau - until we move to Llanrumney High School astro turf, starting November 2nd when training moves to a Tuesday 6-7pm.

This was always going to be a good game - 2 sides pretty evenly matched who both like to play football.
Canton started the stronger and for the first 20 mins were the better side. They bossed the midfield, were quicker to the second balls and generally seemed to click faster than us. If it wasnt for several great saves from Bradley in goal along with some great defending from Callum, Chaz, Josh and Matty we may well have been 2 or 3 down! Canton hit hit bar twice during an excellent period for them and it looked like we were in for a real tough time.
We weathered the early storm and got a foothold during last 15 minutes of the first half. Danny was getting on the ball and playing Will into the game down the left - and Swabes was linking well with Chris down the right. It was 0-0 at halftime and I was fairly happy with that given the great start Canton got off to.
We weathered the early storm and got a foothold during last 15 minutes of the first half. Danny was getting on the ball and playing Will into the game down the left - and Swabes was linking well with Chris down the right. It was 0-0 at halftime and I was fairly happy with that given the great start Canton got off to.
The second half was a different match - we started to tick and went ahead with a great goal. Chris gained possession on the half way line and weighted a beautiful through ball to Danny who finished well as their keeper came out. This spawned a 20 minute spell that won us the game. Our confidence grew and as Canton chased the game we exploited the gaps left at the back. We went 2-0 up when Danny latched onto a ball over the top, waited for Kierans run and lobbed the ball over - Kireans first effort was saved but he popped in the rebound.
Our third goal was an absolute beauty - Chris sent a lovely corner over and Chaz came steaming in and headed in a rocket of a goal.
We conceded a penalty that Canton missed - the ball shot over the bar - and had this gone in, a 3-1 scoreline may well have set them going again.
Our fourth goal was extremely fortunate - Danny pounced onto a through ball - but James in the Canton goal was out like a flash, which caused Danny to scuff his shot - ironically this took James by surprise and the ball trickled through and over the line. Credit to Chris who ensured the ball went over - yet at the same time not touching the ball so as not to take the goal away from Danny!
Canton scored next from a corner. The ball came over and fell to an unmarked Canton player who finished well off the volley to make it 4-1.
Chris scored our fifth - the ball dropping to him on the edge of the area and he volleyed into the corner.
5-1 flattered us, although on the whole we deserved the win, I was really pleased with our resolve to get through the difficult first 20 mins and gradually take control of the game. We were also missing 2 first team players today which made the win that more pleasing.
Canton are a very good side, they play good football and will win games this season - and when we play them again in a few weeks I bet the scoreline is alot closer.

Pentwyn Dynamos 2 - 7 Rhiwbina FC Black

Another match that saw the scoreline flatter the opposition - mainly due to our lack of concentation in the first half - and our failure to convert our chances in the second.
We started well and looked 'at it' - and then on 12 mins we conceded a sloppy goal, our heads went down and before we knew it we were 3 nil down. Rhiwbina took charge and ran the first half from there on.
Kieran went on a great run and hit the post, Danny went through and narrowly missed and Will was adjudged offside when clean through - but it was actually the other 2 players in offside postions - Will had timed his run to perfection. The ref actually agreed he had gotten it wrong seconds later!
Just when we thought we were back in it - we lost our concentration again and they scored again. It was 4 nil at half time and I told the boys to get out there and give everything in the second half - and see if we could ruffle them - and fair play to the boys, they did.
We played all the football in the second half, our influential players got into the game and our confidence grew.
Danny was getting on the ball and put Kieran through several times and on another day he woul dhave scored 4 or 5 - but for some good saves from their keeper. Matty was a constant threat down the right and was outstanding in the second half, Chris was everywhere - midfield one minute - then popping up with a header from a great Matty cross the next! Callum was outstanding at left back and Josh came on at half time and had a superb second half.
Kieran got the goal to get us back in it getting on the end of a ball in from the right. Next he went through, rounded the keeper - and the keeper swiped his legs away for a penalty - yet stayed on the field as the ref decided that juniors are playing to different rules....Now I dont want to see a junior player sent off, but if the laws state it then I would accept it if it happens to us this season.
Kieran unfortunately missed the penalty as our bad luck continued but we kept going and creating. Danny got the ball on the edge of the box and dribbled through 3 men - but had his effort saved.
Our second goal was lucky but we probably deserved some! Chris took a long throw that flew across and the keeper miscontrolled it into the net.
Rhiwbina were the better side and deserved the win, but on another day the score may have been a lot closer. We have now lost our opening 4 matches and I know people are feeling stressed. But we have played the top 3 teams in a row - including Whitchurch twice! - and that is possibly the worst run of fixtures anyone will have all season!
We havent suddenly become a poor side, we will win games, I do know what im doing and people need to keep faith in the boys.

Saturday 24th Sept
Under 14 Cup First Round
Caedelyn park
AFC Whitchurch Red 5 Pentwyn Dynamos 0
After playing Whitchurch in our opening league match, followed by St Albans, our difficult start to the season continued as we we drawn to play Whitchurch yet again in the Cup!
A tight first 20 mins saw the deadlock broken with an unlucky deflected goal that had Bradley rooted to the spot, helpless as the ball cannoned off a defender and went the other way - story of our season so far!
The game was a close one with Whitchurch the better side - using their usual pace and power and long balls for Mikey to chase. We kept him fairly quiet but it was their No 7 and Bradley that did the damage this time.
Their No 7 ran the game - I wish I knew his name so I could give him his dues! he was everywhere, never wasted possession and was involved in all things good from Whitchurch.
Bradley smashed in 2 superb freekicks that are unsavable by a 14 year old keeper - the first one was drilled low into the bottom corner that left Bradley with no chance. But it was the second one that was really special - Beckham would have been proud of it as he curled it into the top left hand corner.
We had our chances - Chris had a wonderful effort from 25 yards saved by Lloyd in the Whitchurch goal - and Danny pounced on the rebound only for Lloyd to get straight back up and save that too!
Chris went through and lobbed the keeper only to see the ball go the wrong side of the post and Kieran had and effort well saved also.
It seems that I am saying this alot at the moment - but we played fairly well for the most part and probably didint deserve to lose 5 nil. Whitchurch were the better side but we played more football - but it seems that there will be no prizes for good football this season - unless it is accompanied by size, power and pace.
Thursday 22nd Sept
Under 14 A Division
Tremorfa Park
St Albans 9 Pentwyn Dynamos 0
A strange match - 3 players cried off in the hour before kick off, leaving us with the bare XI - not ideal preparation to play the teams best side!
We were actually the better side for the first 20 mins! we should have scored 2 or 3 goals - and would have but for excellent saves from Elliott in goal for The Buns.
We went a goal down through a bit of bad fortune - a defender miscontrolling into the path of a striker and that was that.
The half time score was 3 nil and it had been a tight first half with St Albans shading it having taken their chances whereas we did not.
The second half started the same way and I felt we could get back into it if we could score, but as the half went on we tired and The Buns smelt blood. The were ruthtless and went for it and seemed to score every couple of mins of the second half. We battled hard for the most part but they were faster and stronger and once we tired they took full advantage.
In my opinion St Albans are the strongest team in the league and I will be surprised if the lose a match all season, they have a team of exceptional players - they can bring off a Cardifff Schools player and replace him with another one!
The boys must take heart from the first half and not let the scoreline disguise a decent first half performance.

This was always going to be a difficult first match, Whitchurch are big, powerful and pacey - and didint they show it!
We found ourselves 6 nil down inside 30 mins - and it could have been more. Whitchurch were playing to their strengths as usual - Closing us down quickly, hard tackling and knocking balls over the top for Mikey to chase - and we really struggled to cope with it.
We were missing Kieran up front and I think he would have made a difference playing them at their own game a bit more, but in all honesty for the first half we werent in it at all. We failed to challenge the high balls, rarely closed them down, gave them far to much space and time on the ball - then wondered why they were ripping us apart! We did miss a penalty and Chris had a nice lob clerared off the line in the first half, but apart from that is was a half best forgotten - providing we learned our lessons from all the things we didnt do.
We changed our shape and moved people back into their favoured positions and what a difference the second half was! We scored twice with no reply and were probably the better side this half.
Danny was brought down in the area and Caine stepped up to fire a lovely penalty into the bottom right hand corner.
Chris got the second goal after forcing a good save from their kepper - then pouncing and the rebound.
Charlie and Callum were excellent in the second half - and Will made a difference coming on and using the ball well.
Lessons hopefully were learned in the first half that must be taken into the rest of the season - there will be no easy games for us this season but if we apply ourselves as we did in the second half we can compete with most.

A nice end to the season with a great result for us - we had never beaten Maindy since starting 11 a side football in 3 previous attempts and finally acheived it today!
We started well, playing our passing game and taking it to Maindy, taking a deserved lead through Sam Willis. Danny teed him up for a lovely curling effort into the top corner. We soon went 2 nil up through Will - who was having a great game again afeter a recent run of excellent form - and we looked like we were going to run away with it.
But we did our ususal thing and slowed it down, allowing Maindy back into it and before we knew it - it was 2-2!
I told the boys at half time to get back at them and we restored our lead through Charlie - and Danny added another to make it 4-2, but we again Maindy stepped their game up and scored 2 goals to level it at 4-4.
It was startting to look like we were heading for a draw - when Will rtaced through onto a through ball and lifted the ball over the outrushing keeper to snatch victory and make it 5-4!
An enjoyable win to end the season and put the Maindy hoodoo to bed!

A real dogged first half performance in which we managed to keep the eventual League Champions at bay - we harried, hasselled & closed down and really made them work for it. The boys all put in a magnificent effort and it was 0-0 at half time.
We tired in the second half and they eventually scored - and I think we just couldnt keep up the work rate - and they smelt blood. They hit us with another 3 goals in a 15 minute period that could have seen us give up.
But we didnt - we got a second wind and the introduction of Willl Fry gave us a different type of outlet up front. Will got invloved straight away and got his reward capitalising on uncertainty between their defence and goalkeeper to finish cooly giving us a consolation goal - final score 1-4.
A little bit more belief during that cricial early period of the seconf half and we might just have gotten soemthing here - but in all honesty Rhiwbina were big, powerful and clinical and deserved the win although I think even Tony would agree - 4-1 flattered them a little.

A good first half and an average second - Again!!! - We went 3 nil up and allowed them to claw it back to 3-2, before finally closing the game out with a 4th late on.
We did ride our luck at times - they hit the post twice early on but we got better as the minutes ticked by. We scored some great goals in the first half - the first was a lovely chip from Steff - beautifully executed from the left corner of the box into the far left of the goal. The second was probably our best team goal of the season - Callum recieved the ball at left back and sent a lovely ball down the line to Chris, who held it up for Danny and he flicked the ball through for Steff - and he made no mistake slotting it into the bottom righ hand corner.
We were in control now and were looking like our old selves - stroking the ball around and looking dangerous. Danny was ruled offside as he struck a great volley into the roof of the net - this looked a harsh decision but no use in arguing.
Our third came when Chris bullied their centre half out of possesion , went through and had his initial shot saved but he gobbled up the rebound taking it past the last man and passing it into an empty net. Next, Steffan saw a screamer come back off the bar - denying him his third hatrick of the season.
We conceded right on the stroke of half time - asleep at the back and faliure of the midfield to track their runner allowed their man through - Brad got a hand to it but it crept over the line for 1-3 at half time.
They scored a second that really shouldnt have stood - a clear hand ball went unpunished and the following through ball was recieved by their man clearly 2 yards offside - the ref looked the other way and it was 2-3.
We have taken the lead in so many games this season and failed to hold it - so this was now a test to see if the boys have listened to what we have been telling them of late about shutting games down and concentrating. It seems they had - we didnt panic and gradually regained control of the game.
Will came on and made an impact straight away - neat little touches feeding fellow sub Swabes - had Grangetwon worried regularly - 2 passes in particualr cut them open but the ref decided Swabes was offside when clean through both times - harshly in my opinion.
We eventually made sure of the 3 points when their keeper dropped the ball and nevr manged to get 2 hands back on it as Caine came in and poked it over the line for 2-4.
Back to winning ways and playing well - lets end the season on a high now boys!

Under 13 Cup Round 3
Waun Fach
Pentwyn Dynamos 0 - 4 Whitchurch
We were caught cold and probably lost this match inside the first 3 mins! Whitchurch came out of the blocks quicker than us and scored straight away with their first attack - a long ball over the top caught us napping and it was 1 nil. From the restart they went down the right crossed a ball over and we conceded a freak own goal - a miscued volley into the top corner from the edge of the box and we found ourselves 2 nil down inside the first 3 mins!
We had barley caught our breath when Whitchurch were awarded a free kick around 25 yards out - which was beautifully struck into the top corner leaving Brad with no chance - and picking the ball out of the net for a third time in 15 mins!
We changed our formation and moved a few players around and got a hold of the match - albeit too late - and the match settled down into a more balanced affair. Their keeper had a great game saving everything we through at him - including Caines well struck penalty - pulling off a save worthy of a senior keeper.
We conceded a 4th late on after a box scramble follwing a corner and that was that. Whitchurch caught us cold and never looked back and deserved their victory - I was disappointed as I had fancied a cup run but it wasnt to be - we dont seem to get favourable draws in the cup!

An excellent first half performance but we lost it in the second half. We went a goal down and responded well - a lovely goal from Will, chipping the keeper - against his old team again! He scored in this fixture last season also. Chaz then put us ahead with a screamer of a free kick from all of 30 yards.
They equalised making it 2-2 but we went ahead again after their keeper allowed a weak shot from Chris to slip through his fingers for 3-2 at half time.
We allowed them back in early on after a mistake at the back let them clean through and it was individual errors for the next 2 goals that cost us. We gave a top side a hell of a game for most of this match but in the end lack of concentration and belief cost us dearly.

Not a great performance but it got us back to winning ways. We never looked like losing but never really took it to them either. Goals from Danny - who also missed a penalty, a brace from Steff and goals also from Swabes and Sam Azu gave us a much needed win. Marlboro never gave up and kept playing right to the final whistle and deserved their goals - their first was the goal of the game - a long range effort form around 30 yards out.
We must learn to not get sucked into how the oppostion want to play - in this case long balls and up in the air - when we keep the ball on th edeck and play to our strengths we can be great but when we allow the oppostion to dictate it we struggle.

A game of two halves - we ran the first half completely and then starting the second half saleep cost us 2 points.
We started really well - we had all the possession and went ahead through a great team goal - We played it from the back to the midfield, a great ball from Sam Willis through to Steffan who's shot was parried by the keeper and Danny pounced to make it 1 nil.
It was soon 2 nil through Steffan - another graet pass from Sam Willis and Steffan made no mistake as the keeper came out.
Our third goal was good too - a searching diagonal pass from Steffan picked out Danny who lobbed the keeper as he came racing off his line.
We conceded on the stroke of half time - lack of concentration and we allowed them through to make it 3-1 at the break.
We started the 2nd half asleep and what followed was hard to believe - they went for us and scored 3 in quick succession and we were 4-3 down inside 10 mins! We had to take Danny off and Caine got injured and this maybe affected the balance of the side temporarily but, to their credit, the boys steadied the ship and regained control of the match - reducing Rumney to counter attacks.
We eventually drew level when Chris followed up his own shot after the keeper had palmed it out - we went for it in the last 10 mins but couldnt get the winner - Sam Azu had a great shot well saved and Steffan came close from long range several times, but it wasnt to be.
All in all a much improved showing after the Llanedeyen collapse - but concentration must improve!

Without doubt our worst performance of the season - Llanedeyrn were faster, stronger and wanted it more and really looked impressive. We conceded goals from 4 corners! and our mistakes cost us on 3 of their goals.
The only highlight was our goal - a bullet header from Charlie - well deserved as Chaz was great today, battling in midfield alone for most of the match.
A match best forgotten and on a personal note - my first defeat against Llanedeyrn - which as a Pentwyn boy wasnt nice!

I was looking forward to this one ever since we drew 3-3 earlier in the season with a few big players missing - I fancied our chances of beating them with our strongest team.
Fast forward 5 months......Our keeper Bradley away skiing, Matty & Will unavailable due to a rugby tournament - ok at least we still have 12 players - we can have a go. Then it got worse......text messages on Friday night - Steffan injured playing rugby and unable to play and Josh was at A & E after a fall injuring his wrist - ruling him out too.
So we were forced to play with 10 men - the first time this has ever happened to us and hopefully the last!
We gave this match a right go! the boys never gave up and kept fighting all day long. It was 0-0 for 20 mins and although The Buns had more of the ball - understandably so - we were holding our own.
We went 1 nil down and 2 nil down quickly after with a 3rd going in just before half time - possibly heads were going down a little - but half time gave me a chance to raise spirits.
The Second half was similar to the first and we had a foot hold in the match - if not the scoreline - and only went and scored! Sam Willis doing well, getting into the box and putting a ball across for Daniel Swabey to put away.
We battled on - Charlie was excellent in the middle of the park today, leading by example - The Buns had to keep working - I dont believe it felt to them that we had only 10 men,
The inevitable happened and they got a fourth which killed off any faint hopes we had of a miracle turnaround quickly followed by a fifth following a mistake, and if not for some great saves from Sam Azu - standing in, in goal for the second week in a row, and a cross bar that seemed to like the ball! it may have been worse.
The last 5 mins was the only time we looked tired - not surprising as we had worked so hard - and they had us penned in but we kept it fairly respectable.
The boys should be proud of themselves - I am imensley - they gave a great account of themselves today against a top side.
Well done boys - great fight, great desire and above all great effort!

No Bradley this week so my first problem was to find someone willing to play in goal - step forward Sam Azu! Sam usually plays in defence but you wouldnt have known it on his performance today - he was great!
A better performance this week in the end - though we did start slowly and allowed Grangetown a few opportunities early on. As the first half went on we gradually took control and eventually took the lead through Danny - latching onto a throw in from Chris, rolling his man and volleying into the right hand corner.
The lead didnt last long though as we failed to clear our lines and after a scramble in the box they made it 1-1. We should have been 2-1 ahead when Steffan burst through and went one on one with their keeper but he made a great save when everyone thought the ball was in.
Swabes had an effort well saved - as did Chris - They were proving tough to break down and threatened on the counter attack down the right with real pace.
1-1 at half time and I reminded the boys about last week and how we couldnt drop points like that again!
A much better second half, Steffan took control, Matty came on and gave us a real threat down the left and Sam Willis came on to link up with Chaz in the midfield. We were 2-1 up in minutes as Steffan dispossessed their defender and stormed through to score.
Within minutes he did it again from the right hand side - latching onto the ball after Grangetown failed to clear and slotting home for 3-1.
Steffan was buzzing now and notched his third soon after when Danny played a great through ball for him to whiz past their defenders, take the keeper and pass into an empty net for his hatrick making it 4-1 - and thats 2 hatricks in a row now for Steff!
We were well in control now and had plenty of opportunities to score more - Danny had 2 efforts disallowed for offside - the first was offside but the second wasnt! - and a nice volleyed effort saved later on. Steffan had another great effort well saved by their keeper - who was having a great game, Sam Willis had a shot well saved- but it stayed at 4!
We relaxed a little thinking the game was won and allowed them back into it and they took advantage with a well taken goal.
We played mostly within ourselves Today - stepping it up when we needed to - but doing just enough.
A special mention for Sam Azu - Stepped forward to play in goal, showed great attitude, played really well and actually enjoyed it!
