Butetown 1 - 0 Pentwyn Dynamos

Always a tough one and Today was no different. Butetown were good last year and have improved even more this season. They play much more football now and it was a strange one as they had more of the ball than us which we are not that used to. The first half was largely contested in midfield and we stood up well to their physical threat and counter attacked when we could. There were few clear cut chances for either side. for us - Huw hit over from close range, Dan hit over from the edge of the box and so did Ryan. They had a few shots from the edge of the box and several corners that threatened but we dealt with them well enough.
Ryan was taken down with a bad challenge that some refs would have shown a red card for but this time it was only a yellow.

AJ was looking really good for Butetown - always a handful down the right and Mike Bellew had to be at his best all game to track him. They shaded the first half but it was 0-0 at half time and the match could go either way.
I noticed that it was getting close to half time and shouted to the ref asking how long was left - he thought we were playing 45 mins each way - I corrected him that it should be 40 mins but he insisted on playing 45, instead of blowing up and accounting for the extra as injury time. I commented that I wouldnt be happy if we lost in the last minute when we would have played 10 mins too long!

We were better in the second half and saw more of the ball and the game became more stretched and both teams were trying to win it.
They went through twice but hit shots wide - it was still on a knife edge.
Jared went through and was taken down in the box but the ref refused a decent penalty claim for us.
Chaz hit one from 25 yards that had the keeper stranded but it cannoned off the bar and they managed to clear.

Then in the 90th minute we conceded a penalty - no arguments from me, a clear penalty.
We then had a man sent off for swearing at the ref when protesting - no arguments there either , obvious straight red.
They scored the pen - in off the post.
My argument was that all this happened during 10 minutes additional time that shouldnt have been played - and we should have been in the car on the way home with a well deserved point from the hardest place to go in the A Division.

Trelai

Caerau Ely 1 - 4 Pentwyn Dynamos
                           Taylor (2), Gibbins, McLaggon

We started well - passing the ball around really well and generally bossing it. We scored early - Dan crossing in for Ryan to head home.

We continued to play and soon our second came - this was one of the best team goals we have ever scored.
The ball started at the back - passing between Matthew, Huw and Josh, then into Jake the midfield, out to Ryan wide right and back into Jake. Jake played the ball forward to Chaz who weighted a beautiful pass into the path of a great run from Dan who made no mistake - into the corner off the left post as the keeper advanced. A 7 or 8 pass move that culminated in a wonderful goal.

And then we stopped playing - we allowed Careau to get back into the game and they took charge for the final 15 mins of the half - scoring a very good goal themselves and it was 1-2 at half time.

Caerau had lost all of their games so far this season but looked a decent side to me - a nice mix of passing and battling spirit had us hanging on a bit. They forced us back but most of their shots were from distance and either wide or over - but the game was close.

Jared and Corey came on and made a real difference - their energy and will to get forward gave us back the control of the game. Jared scored a great goal from distance into the top right hand corner - and Ryan finished them off with a nicely taken chip as he went through in what looked an offside position but he played to the whistle on finished well.

1-4 flattered us but we deserved the win. Caerau were good and the next time we meet it will be closer for sure.

Pentwyn Dynamos 1 - 1 Whitchurch
Pain

The morning started badly when the ref cried off at the last minute, leaving me to pick up the whistle - and the boys with no coaching from the touchline.

We started off well enough though and it was a closely contested first 20 mins. We created several good moves but couldn't find that extra spark.

We had an opportunity to take the lead through a penalty but missed it. The match took shape and it looked like Whitchurch were going to be tough.

We took the lead through a great goal - Corey received the ball on the edge of the box, went past his man and drilled a bullet of a shot low into the bottom corner.

1-0 up at half time, not playing great but decent enough.

The second half was a different matter - Whitchurch bossed it, forced us back and gradually took control of the match. We created very little and by the last 15 minutes we were hanging on.
They equalised - deservedly so - through a cruel deflection  - leaving Bradley rooted to the spot as he watched the ball fly past him.

A poor second half performance that Whitchurch will say they should have won - and I wouldn't argue to be honest.

Cardiff & District Under 16 A Division

Roath Park

Marlboro Sports 3 - 2 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                   Bellew, Foulkes

Another hard match in which we were missing players - Jake absent and Matty still injured. We then lost Josh to injury after 15 minutes - and he was having a good game. This left us with no recognised full backs and players playing out of position.

Marlboro started the better and a succession of corners at the start had us under pressure from the off.
They bossed it for the first 15 minutes and we looked lacklustre and off the pace. That said - they never really created a chance and we weathered a storm of crosses and throughballs.

We got a foothold and started to threaten them a little - Ryan running at them and Dan getting on the ball more.

We took the lead - still slightly against the run of play - through Mike Bellew. Mike followed in Jakes footsteps from last week scoring a wonderful first goal for the club. He powered through and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top right hand corner to put us 1 up against his old team.

The game was mainly contested in the central areas and remained like that until half time and we were pleased to have the lead despite not having played anywhere near our best.

We lost the game in 10 mad minutes -  mistakes are costing us goals each week - players decision making is more important at thisage group and a failure to play an easy ball on the half way line, lead to us losing possession and they went through to score a very good goal - but from our point of view should never have happened had we played the way we were facing!

The second goal was a good finish from Nick - who was a real thorn in our side all morning, we allowed him to turn and poke the ball into the corner.

The third goal was another mistake - again bad decision making lead to attempting to dribble out from the back past an attacker, losing possession and a cross to nicks head saw us 3-1 down.

All that happened in 10 minutes but we did regain some composure - Corey came on and gave us a bit more up front and we managed to get one back through Chaz - his volley deflected into the top right hand corner.

We pressed them for an equaliser but they stood firm and held on for a deserved win.

We did the hard bit - taking the lead when not at our best and missing several players, yet bad decision making let us down and mistakes are costing us this season. We are much stronger than we have ever been and if not for mistakes we may well have won 4 of our 5 matches - yet as it stands we have only won 1, drawn 2 and lost 2.

Pentwyn Dynamos 4 -0 Grangetown
Emmott, Taylor (2), Foulkes

Injuries and absence still a running theme as we were missing Matthew, Matty and Corey this week!
We bossed it from the start and never looked in trouble. We created so many chances - Dan and Ryan working the goalkeeper and he made several excellent saves - and we wasted several good chances too!

We finally broke the deadlock with a superb goal from Jake - who was superb all match - the ball was half cleared and came at him in the air - he controlled it on his chest and executed a perfect lob into the top right hand corner. What a way to get his first goal for us!

Despite creating chance after chance it remained 1-0 at half time.

The second half we were more clinical and made sure of the points with 2 goals from Ryan - the first a well drilled shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left hand corner - and the second a well placed header from a great free kick from Dan. We finished off with a great goal from Charlie - finishing off a nice move down the right with a good finish.

Fairwater 4 - 1 Pentwyn Dynamos
                        Gibbins
A game in which we never got going and Fairwater deserved to win. It was always going to be tough as we were missing Matty and Jake - 2 big players for us but that is no excuse. The scoreline flattered them as they scored a dubious penalty and the fourth goal was gifted to them from at keystone cops moment at the back leaving their striker with the easiest goal he will ever score.

We were poor from the start and conceded after 10 mins - with a great goal from a Fairwater point of view, their player performing a 360 degree spin to get into the box and finishing well.

Fairwater scored again - Bradley making a great save but no one reacted as he parried and their striker pounced.

Dan gave us a lifeline pulling one back with a nice effort from outside the box - and we had a spell then in which Chaz had a couple of good chances but that was it for us in the first half. The dubious penalty follwed that and it was 3-1 at half time.

The second half was better from us and the only goal conceded was towards the end when we were pushing forward - ball over the top, keeper and 2 centre halves lacked communication and the ball ended up with their striker and it was 4-1.

A poor first half and lack of communication cost us - the better team on the day won.

AFC Whitchurch 1 - 1 Pentwyn Dynamos
McLaggon

Another tough game - seems like they will all be tough this season. There has been very little between us and Whitchurch over the years so I expected it to be close.

We had Matty missing following his injury on Saturday - plus Mike was unavailable due to rugby commitments - so I had to shuffle the pack a bit on a very wet evening. Jake had to play out of position and Swabes came straight into the starting XI despite not playing at the weekend.

They started well and bossed the first 10 mins without really threatening our goal. We settled, grew into the game and started to pass the ball well. There were limited chances in the first half mainly due to Lloyd in the Whitchurch goal playing so well - almost like a sweeper - so quickly out of his goal to clear any through balls - and brave down at the strikers' feet when we did get the ball right.

Whitchurch were very strong in the midfield and their centre backs - as always - were proving difficult to beat. They played much more football Today and will be a difficult team to beat for most sides this season.

Matthew had to come off injured and Swabes had to come off feeling unwell and Dan was playing with an injury - so a fairly big squad was suddenly looking threadbare!

0-0 at half time and we had shaded it - but it was close and either team could win from here.

Jared came on for Swabes and Josh had replaced Matthew and we went out for the second half determined to win it.

We bossed the second half completely from start to finish - limiting Whitchurch to counter attacks and playing some lovely football.

We took the lead from the aftermath of a corner - Huw laid the ball back to Dan, who sent a beauty of a cross in to Jared - who planted a lovely header past Lloyd.

Minutes later we should have made it 2-0 - Ryan went through but Lloyd came out so quickly and managed to get something on the ball to send it for a corner.

Then disaster struck - We allowed one of their players to dribble through us and into the box - a few desperate failed challenges and the ball ended up bouncing free - and what looked like a simple clearance was rushed and miscued straight to one of their players, who made no mistake.

We continued to press and Ryan Pomeroy was getting at them down the right constantly. We had more chances to win it - Huw hit the bar with a great header from a corner, Charlie went through but sent his shot over the bar - and Dan went through in the last minute and sent a lovely ball across the six yard box but no one could get anything on it.

A good performance in bad conditions, missing players and coping with several injuries during the game-  but yet again a mistake cost us the win - we must correct this if we are going to do anything this season.

Match Report

Cardiff & District Under 16 A Division

Pontprennau

Pentwyn Dynamos 3 - 3 Rhiwbina FC
Taylor, Gibbins (2)

The opening day and already one of the toughest matches of the season.
We are stronger this season having added several quality players to the squad, but as it was the first match - and Rhiwbina - I wasn't sure what to expect from us. So I told the boys to concentrate on playing our passing game, stay disciplined and try to control the game.

We were great - we ran the first half and limited Rhiwbina to a 5 minute spell and only a couple of counter attacks. We took the lead on 8 mins through Ryan - latching onto a through ball and passing the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

We continued to press - and looked really threatening, our passing was quick and you could see the new faces were making a difference. We went further ahead on 20 mins through Dan - a sweet left footed volley in off the bar.

We then went 3-0 up through a penalty - for handball in the box. Dan stepped up and dispatched it well. With around 10 mins left until half time I thought if we could keep a clean sheet until the break we were looking good for the win.

Just before half time Rhiwbina were awarded a free kick just outside the box - and Jacob hit an unstoppable shot into the corner - leaving Brad with no chance. Matty then had to come off with an injury which was a shame as he had been excellent.

The second half was a different game - Rhiwbina became a lot more physical and cynical - winding our players up and throwing us off our game. It became an intense, bad tempered match that the ref lost control of. We took the bait and some of our players started diving in too - and from here on it was one bad challenge after another from both teams.
Rhiwbina do it so well when they look like they are beaten - they continually launched long balls and turned the game in their favour.

Rhiwbina soon got a second goal and we started to look like we were hanging on a little - but
I changed our shape and we regained our composure and steadied the ship.
Just when I felt we could close the game out we made that one error - possibly our only real mistake of the entire game - that cost us. A mix up between goalkeeper and centre back saw the ball bounce to a striker, who made it 3-3.

Late on a Rhiwbina player fell awkwardly and it looked likely that he had broken his wrist. This signalled the end of the match as we were all more concerned with the well being of the player. I hope he recovers quickly and is soon back playing football.

In summary - An excellent first half, we played all the football but didn't adapt quickly enough to long ball tactics. A draw was propbably fair as Rhiwbina bossed the second half. Not many sides will get anything off Rhiwbina so a draw is a solid start - and we will only get better as the team gels.

Under 15 Cup Semi Final

Pentwyn Dynamos 6 - 2 Ty Celyn
Mclaggon, Gibbins (2),
B. Pomeroy (2), Foulkes

This looked a tough game for us - we were depleted as Ryan and Matthew were cup tied, Matty missing and Chris only able to play the second half having come to the match straight from rugby! Not ideal going into a cup semi final missing 4 first team players but we have a stronger squad than ever before and I knew we could do it.

I told the boys that this was a game we needed to win in the first half - as the longer it was tight, the more chance we gave the opposition.

We started really well - scoring after just 2 minutes - Charlie playing a great ball in behind the right back for Dan, who whipped a ball in across the box and Jared was there to tap in at the back post.

We were soon 2 up - this time the ball dropped to Dan on the penalty spot and he slotted it for 2 nil.

We were looking good and creating lots of chances but we conceded next - against the run of play and extremely unlucky - a slip at the back enabled their striker to go clean through unchallenged and finish really well, chipping Brad to get Ty Celyn back in it.

We scored again soon after - Ben Pomeroy with a lovely shot from the edge of the box into the top right hand corner.

3-1 up at half time and we talked at half time about how crucial it was that we scored next. Ty Celyn came out a different team second half - they went for broke and put 2 up front and made the game more of a battle. tackles were flying in and they got their second goal - a well taken finish low into the bottom right hand corner.

Ty Celyn sensed a revival and came at us - but we were clever and started to catch them on the break and eventually the game became so stretched that it suited us - our quick players were getting at them and we created lots of chances. Sam was having a great game in the middle, breaking it up and working so hard, which was enabling Charlie to get forward more.
We went 4-2 up through Ben - scoring his second of the night from just inside the area - a well taken finish.

We were really at it now - Huw had a couple of headed chances that went close, Charlie shot just wide and you felt more goals were imminent.
Charlie soon made it five bursting into the box and smashing home as the keeper advanced.

Dan finished the night off with the goal of the match - the ball dropped to him on the edge of the box and he hit a volley with the outside of his right foot that dipped just under the bar for 6-2.

A good performance and our fourth straight victory to take us to our first cup final.

Pentwyn Dynamos 2 -1 Pentyrch
Taylor (2)

A second meeting with Pentyrch in 3 days - and this time both sides knew what to expect. This possibly caused the flat, lackluster first half performance from both sides. Little happened of note - the game being contested mainly in the middle of the park - with the ball spending more time in the air than on the deck.

We did create 2 good chances - Dan going through but slotted the ball narrowly wide. Ryan had a similar chance and the result was the same.

The second half  was much better from both sides - but we just shaded it.

We created lots of chances - Chaz hit a stinging shot just past the upright, Chris went wide from distance, Ryan had several shots saved following box scrambles - and Dan went closest hitting the post.

Pentyrch were counter attacking well now and looked dangerous on the break but the final ball was letting them down - either a tame shot or a cross that we cleared.

This was looking like a rare 0-0 draw until we took the lead after 60 mins - Dan hit a curling corner in that very nearly went in - the keeper flapped at it touching it into the path of Ryan Taylor, who nodded in.

We settled now but kept leaving gaps at the back and Pentyrch levelled with 5 mins remaining - a superb dipping shot that flew over Brads head into the net.

with 2 minutes left - just when we thought we had dropped 2 points - we got a throw in level with the 6 yard line on the left. Chris launched a throw in that was better than most corners, Ryan Taylor rose and directed a superb header into the top left hand corner to snatch victory with his 7th goal in the last 5 matches.

A strong finish to the season with 3 wins - just the small matter of the cup semi final on Thursday now...

Pentyrch 0 - 2 Pentwyn Dynamos
                        Viney, Taylor

After several postponements we finally met Pentyrch - I knew little about them so couldnt pick the team to suit the opposition as I usually do, instead I just set us up to play football.

It worked - we had all the possession and the chances in the first half and if not for some good goalkeeping and resolute defending we might have scored more than the one goal we did register in the first half - Chris heading home after the keeper saved from Dan.

The second half was a different game - Pentyrch upped their game and came at us more, became more physical and asked more questions of our defence.

We stood up to them well but the game became end to end - Brad made a wonderful double save to keep our lead and that was a warning to us.

Pentyrch were playing well now and hit the bar with a great shot - a little bit of luck that we havent had recently.

We sealed the points with minutes left - Ryan Taylor racing on to a through ball and lifting it over the keeper.

Llanedeyrn Bluebirds 2 - 5 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                            Gibbins (3) Taylor (2)

A game played in a constant howling gale - and credit to both sides as they kept going and still made a game of it.

We made the most of the first half and probably won the game in that period. Ryan put us 1 up after a box scramble and he pounced.

Dan made it 2 with a looping effort into the far corner from just outside the box.

We were in control now and were playing all the football, Llanedeyrn resorting to launching long balls into the wind to try and disrupt our play. But we kept it on the deck and were soon 3 up - Dan this time pouncing on a mistake by the keeper to poke it home.

3 -0 up at half time and could have been more but I told the boys they had to be ruthless and try for more.
Matthew O'Reilly - immense since joining us was having a great game at the back against his old side - as was Ryan up top, running all the lines and a constant menace. Chaz was winning the midfield battle - aided by Sam - and Dan was pulling the strings on the ball.

The second half was more of a contest as Llanedeyrn launched balls over the top trying to get their strikers onto it.

We went 4 up with the goal of the game - Good work involving Ryan, Sam, Chaz and Matty linking up passing, moving and threading through to Dan - who rolled his man and slotted it as the keeper advanced to complete his hatrick.

Llanedeyrn then had a 10 min spell as they went for broke - and caused problems. We dithered on the ball on the edge of the box and Kieran - a former Dynamos player -  pounced on it and finished well low and into the bottom left hand corner.

Llanedeyrn scored a second through a dubious penalty - the ball bouncing up and hitting Huws hand - but he knew nothing about it and couldnt have moved it if he did, as it happened so quickly.
Brad gave their striker a  little talking to- to try and plant a seed of doubt. The penalty was well struck but Brad got down well and made a great save but we didnt react quickly enough and they converted the rebound to get themselves back in it at 2-4.

We went up a gear again now and Dan nearly got his fourth - a stinging left foot volley from 25 yards that Llanedeyrn keeper James saved up in his top right hand corner - a truly magnificent save.

Dan went close again but was foiled by another great save from James in the Llanedeyrn goal - James always has a good game against us!

We made sure of the win when Ryan grabbed his second goal going through and finishing well as James came off his line to make it 5-2.

Good to get back to winning ways - and it was pleasing to show the resilience to see off a mini Llanederyn revival.

Pentwyn Dynamos 4 - 6 Fairwater
Gibbins, Swabey, Taylor (2)

A strange game that in all honesty we threw away. We started the better side but failed to convert our chances - Dan and Ryan both going close early on. we fell behind against the run of play, which gave Fairwater belief and they took charge. They scored again and I was left scratching my head at how the game had changed.

Dan scored just before half time with a well placed left foot shot into the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the box giving us a lift - 2-1 down at half time and still in with a good chance of getting something.

The second half was very eventful - They scored early on to make it 3-1 and we looked like losing.
All of a sudden we came alive - we scored 3 goals in the space of 10 mins - Ryan Taylor grabbing 2 poachers goals and Swabes with a nice finish catching the keeper napping at his near post.

4-3 up and we had them on the ropes.

We then pressed the self destruct button. We allowed the ball to go over our heads at the back way to often - and got caught following a misjudgment, leading to us conceded a penalty. They converted it to level.

They now were the better side again - coming at us in waves - and we let them panic us and made silly mistakes - the next goal came after we had an easy chance to clear wasnt taken and they took the lead.

The nail in the coffin was yet another mistake - playing a pass across our box straight to the feet of their player who fed in his team mate to make it 6-4.

We should have gone on to win after coming back from 3-1 down to 4-3 up - we should have controlled possession and dictated the pace of the game better. It may be the fact that I was forced to ref - and consequently couldnt coach or make relevant changes - that affected us most, but Fairwater played very well and took their chances when they came.

Rumney Rec

Under 15 Cup Quarter Final

FC Dragons 1 - 2 Pentwyn Dynamos
                             Foulkes, Willis

On paper this looked a good draw but I knew better than that, FC Dragons had already won the C Division, were unbeaten all season and had already knocked out A Division opposition in the cup this season. This was going to be tight, tough and no different to an A Division league match. We were missing Matty again plus Ryan and Matthew were unable to play as they were 'cup tied' having turned out for Llanedeyrn earlier in the season.

I was right and to be honest I was still surprised by how good FC Dragons were - and I think the boys were too as they bossed the early stages and we looked a little shell shocked.

We settled after a nervy first 10 mins and the game took shape. They were playing lots of long balls out from the back, but playing good football down the flanks and in the final third. They took a deserved lead with a wonderful goal from Connor (formerly of St Albans and clearly still still good enough to be with them).
Connor received the ball down the right went past a man and unleashed a bullet shot from 25 yards that flew past Brad before he could even see it!

I worried as to how the boys would react to going a goal down but it seemed to revive us. We started to get on the ball more and Chris was worrying them running down the right flank.

We got our equalizer from a corner - great delivery from Dan and a bullet header from Chaz. Game on!

1-1 at half time and they had shaded it in all honesty.

Chris had to come off at half time with a back injury - and I wondered if our depleted line up could cope with Dragons for another half like the first. I moved a few people around - Callum into midfield to link up with Dan and Ben to left back with licence to bomb forward. Swabes coming on the injured Chris.

The positional changes worked well - Callum got on the ball and along with Dan started to cause them more problems than they did us. We marked Connor better and limited his impact and forced them back.We looked more likely to win now and Dan nearly gave us the lead - his lob was tipped onto the bar by their keeper, who had a great game.

Dan's dead ball delivery was causing them problems as they conceded more free kicks as we pushed them back and his 30 yard free kick seemed destined for the top right hand corner but their keeper again made a wonderful save to keep them in it.

They were defending well and  looked dangerous on the counter attack - and nearly re-took the lead with a nice low drive - only to see it come back off the post.

Our winner came from the aftermath of another corner - they failed to clear it and it dropped to Sam who hit a brilliant low drive into the bottom right hand corner - with his swinger! - to win us the match.

A great game that either side could have won but we just about did enough based on our second half performance to deserve the victory - and well earned place in the semi-finals.

FC Dragons are as good as most sides we have played in the league and would do well in the A Division. I predict them following in Butetown's footsteps and winning the B Division next season.

Cardiff & District Under 15 A Division

Whitchurch 2-1 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                        B. Pomeroy

Always a battle against Whitchurch and there is never much between the teams - and it was the same again.
We were again missing Chris - as were they Mikey - both playing Rugby for Cardiff Schools. Matty was missing with illness also so Josh came in at right back.

We started really well and for the first 10 mins it was all us - Ryan hit the post and so nearly latched onto the rebound.

Whitchurch got going and won a series of corners that got their tails up. They had 3 good chances from these corners from which Brad made 2 great saves.

It was the 3rd chance that they scored from - a great finish smashed into the roof of the net leaving Brad with no chance.

We were playing well though - Dan was getting on the ball and making us tick, Chaz was winning the midfield battle, aided by Sam - and Ryan was running all the lines tirelessly. Whitchurch were their usual physical, well organised hard working selves and looked dangerous on the break.

We went back at them and Ryan hit the post again - so unlucky as he was looking a real threat every time we attacked.

Dan tweaked had groin and had to come off after 30 mins - so Swabes came on and we went 2 up front.

1 - 0 down at half time but still well in it - probably shaded the first half despite being a goal down.

The second half was a different match - we attacked in wave after wave and Whitchurch defended in numbers, hitting us with counter attacks through long balls over the top.

We eventually got our deserved equalizer - Ben Pomeroy with a lovely finish from the edge of the box into the top corner.

We were looking good now - Ryan went through time after time but they managed to get a last ditch tackle in or forced him too wide to get a shot away.

Matthew came on and impressed - winning countless balls in the air and playing some nice stuff on the deck also.

We got caught pushing forward for a winner - typical Whitchurch - long ball over the top with a suspicion of offside -  but a superb finish from the corner of the area into the far corner of the net, a really well taken goal.

We threw the kitchen sink at Whitchurch for the last 15 mins - I went 3 at the back and pushed Huw up front, had a penalty shout as Ryan was hauled down but nothing given.

The two Whitchurch centre backs were immense and protected their lead for them so well - and although we lost to their only shot on target all second half, the quality of the goal deserved to win the match.

On another day we may well have won this but we lost to great defending and 2 extremely good goals.

Pontprennau

Cardiff & District Under 15 A Division

Pentwyn Dynamos 0 - 6 St Albans

We battled so well for the first 25 mins and created a couple of chances - Ryan looking dangerous up front going close twice - but we shot ourselves in the foot by conceding a calamitous own goal. Lack of communication at the back lead to confusion between defender and keeper and the ball ended up in the back of net.

We continued to contain and press well but they scored again just before half time.
2 -0 at half time against the Leagues best side wasnt too bad and I wasnt too disappointed. We were missing  Chris and Huw so I felt satisfied with our first half display.

We went out and continued stuck to our game plan and Ryan again went close - forcing a great save from Elliot in The Buns goal. The scored their 3rd early on and our heads went down a little from there.

We tired late on and Brad made some good saves but - as is so often the case against The Buns - they smelt blood and banged in 3 more to kill any faint hopes of a comeback.

Pentwyn Leisure Centre

UNDER 15 A DIVISION

Pentwyn Dynamos 2 - 2 Llanedeyrn Bluebirds
Viney, Foulkes

Another strange performance from us - we never got anywhere near our form of most of the season, yet still scored twice and could have had a few more but for a man of the match display from James in goal for Llanedeyrn.

They started the stronger and we struggled to get going and there were a few scary moments but we eventually played our way into the game and took control of it.

Dan went down the left and sent a ball across the goal that was only half cleared - Chris pounced and it was 1-0.

We went further ahead when Chris went down the left again and sent over a perfect left footed shot and Charlie volleyed it low and hard into the net to make it 2-0.

2-0 up at half time and I told the boys the next goal was big - get out there and score first.

Llanedeyrn came out quicker and we dropped deeper and deeper - eventually conceding a really well taken goal - a great ball over the top and their striker finished well into the top corner. They were really making a game of it now - giving us no time or space and looking dangerous when they went forward.

We actually started to play now and created several chances - Jared struck a powerful, dipping shot that James somehow got fingers to and tipped onto the bar.

Jared again struck another beauty that James flew across and pushed wide at full stretch.

We were pouring forward trying to kill them off and got caught napping at the back and got themselves level.

The last 15 minutes were end to end and either team could have nicked it - we created a box scramble but somehow they cleared.

A draw was a fair outcome given Llanederns comeback - it was hard to believe they are bottom of the league. If they play like that every week they could well get out of trouble.

UNDER 15 A DIVISION

Pentwyn Dynamos 0 - 3 Rhiwbina Black

We havent beaten Rhiwbina since under 12s - and we would never have a better chance than Today as they were missing a couple of their best players and werent at their best - unfortunately we didnt take the opportunity.

We never got going, allowed Rhiwbina to dictate the play and couldnt find our form of recent months.
The first goal didnt do our confidence any good as it was yards offside but the referee ignored our appeals.
Dan hit the bar shortly after going a goal down - and maybe if it had hit the back of the net we may have got a foothold, but it wasnt to be.

1-0 down at half time and I told the boys we were still in a good position if we started to play like we have been in most matches this season - but it just wouldnt click.

Rhiwbina went 2 up after 15 mins and coasted it - catching us on the break late on, when we finally started to cause them a problem or two, to score a 3rd to give a final score of 3-0.

Rhiwbina deserved the 3 points but werent at their best - and had we played like we have been this season we could well have won this one.

Heath Park

Marlboro Sports Black 1 - 1 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                              Swabey

This looked to close to call - and in the end it was, though we so nearly won it!
Both teams are good footballing sides and were disappointed to have to play on Heath Parks worst pitch - see below!!

Nevertheless both sides attempted to play their passing game - and succeeded in playing their part in a well contested match that could have gone either way - and in  the end a draw was a fair outcome.

We bossed the first half yet created few chances, the first shot on goal from either team coming on 30 mins - a well struck shot from Daniel Swabey forcing Harrisson down to his left to make a great save. Charlie was excellent in the middle of the park, powerful in the tackle and bursting forward at every opportunity. Dan Gibbins was getting on the ball and pulling all the strings for us. Marlboro had a couple of chances that Brad dealt with well, we had had the better of it though and it was 0-0 at half time.

Marlboro came out strong in the second half - though it was us that took the lead with a well taken goal from Daniel Swabey - hooking a shot into the corner from a difficult angle.
Marlboro really went for us after that and we defended well and counter attacked with pace - Dan Gibbins was having a great game and was causing them real problems on the break and Huw, Ryan, Matty and Callum were defending ever so well at the back.

With only minutes left Dan went on a run down the left and made his way into the box and smashed his shot against the bar - the rebound was then smashed over in a box scramble from 3 yards! So nearly sealed the points but Marlboro grabbed a deserved draw capitalizing on our poor marking from a corner to make it 1-1 with only minutes to go.

A fair result in the end as we bossed the first half and Marlboro the second. Credit to both teams for managing to play football on such a terrible surface.
