Pentwyn Dynamos 2 -1 Pentyrch
Taylor (2)
A second meeting with Pentyrch in 3 days - and this time both sides knew what to expect. This possibly caused the flat, lackluster first half performance from both sides. Little happened of note - the game being contested mainly in the middle of the park - with the ball spending more time in the air than on the deck.
We did create 2 good chances - Dan going through but slotted the ball narrowly wide. Ryan had a similar chance and the result was the same.
The second half was much better from both sides - but we just shaded it.
We created lots of chances - Chaz hit a stinging shot just past the upright, Chris went wide from distance, Ryan had several shots saved following box scrambles - and Dan went closest hitting the post.
Pentyrch were counter attacking well now and looked dangerous on the break but the final ball was letting them down - either a tame shot or a cross that we cleared.
This was looking like a rare 0-0 draw until we took the lead after 60 mins - Dan hit a curling corner in that very nearly went in - the keeper flapped at it touching it into the path of Ryan Taylor, who nodded in.
We settled now but kept leaving gaps at the back and Pentyrch levelled with 5 mins remaining - a superb dipping shot that flew over Brads head into the net.
with 2 minutes left - just when we thought we had dropped 2 points - we got a throw in level with the 6 yard line on the left. Chris launched a throw in that was better than most corners, Ryan Taylor rose and directed a superb header into the top left hand corner to snatch victory with his 7th goal in the last 5 matches.
A strong finish to the season with 3 wins - just the small matter of the cup semi final on Thursday now...

Pentyrch 0 - 2 Pentwyn Dynamos
Viney, Taylor
After several postponements we finally met Pentyrch - I knew little about them so couldnt pick the team to suit the opposition as I usually do, instead I just set us up to play football.
It worked - we had all the possession and the chances in the first half and if not for some good goalkeeping and resolute defending we might have scored more than the one goal we did register in the first half - Chris heading home after the keeper saved from Dan.
The second half was a different game - Pentyrch upped their game and came at us more, became more physical and asked more questions of our defence.
We stood up to them well but the game became end to end - Brad made a wonderful double save to keep our lead and that was a warning to us.
Pentyrch were playing well now and hit the bar with a great shot - a little bit of luck that we havent had recently.
We sealed the points with minutes left - Ryan Taylor racing on to a through ball and lifting it over the keeper.

Llanedeyrn Bluebirds 2 - 5 Pentwyn Dynamos
Gibbins (3) Taylor (2)
A game played in a constant howling gale - and credit to both sides as they kept going and still made a game of it.
We made the most of the first half and probably won the game in that period. Ryan put us 1 up after a box scramble and he pounced.
Dan made it 2 with a looping effort into the far corner from just outside the box.
We were in control now and were playing all the football, Llanedeyrn resorting to launching long balls into the wind to try and disrupt our play. But we kept it on the deck and were soon 3 up - Dan this time pouncing on a mistake by the keeper to poke it home.
3 -0 up at half time and could have been more but I told the boys they had to be ruthless and try for more.
Matthew O'Reilly - immense since joining us was having a great game at the back against his old side - as was Ryan up top, running all the lines and a constant menace. Chaz was winning the midfield battle - aided by Sam - and Dan was pulling the strings on the ball.
The second half was more of a contest as Llanedeyrn launched balls over the top trying to get their strikers onto it.
We went 4 up with the goal of the game - Good work involving Ryan, Sam, Chaz and Matty linking up passing, moving and threading through to Dan - who rolled his man and slotted it as the keeper advanced to complete his hatrick.
Llanedeyrn then had a 10 min spell as they went for broke - and caused problems. We dithered on the ball on the edge of the box and Kieran - a former Dynamos player - pounced on it and finished well low and into the bottom left hand corner.
Llanedeyrn scored a second through a dubious penalty - the ball bouncing up and hitting Huws hand - but he knew nothing about it and couldnt have moved it if he did, as it happened so quickly.
Brad gave their striker a little talking to- to try and plant a seed of doubt. The penalty was well struck but Brad got down well and made a great save but we didnt react quickly enough and they converted the rebound to get themselves back in it at 2-4.
We went up a gear again now and Dan nearly got his fourth - a stinging left foot volley from 25 yards that Llanedeyrn keeper James saved up in his top right hand corner - a truly magnificent save.
Dan went close again but was foiled by another great save from James in the Llanedeyrn goal - James always has a good game against us!
We made sure of the win when Ryan grabbed his second goal going through and finishing well as James came off his line to make it 5-2.
Good to get back to winning ways - and it was pleasing to show the resilience to see off a mini Llanederyn revival.

Pentwyn Dynamos 4 - 6 Fairwater
Gibbins, Swabey, Taylor (2)
A strange game that in all honesty we threw away. We started the better side but failed to convert our chances - Dan and Ryan both going close early on. we fell behind against the run of play, which gave Fairwater belief and they took charge. They scored again and I was left scratching my head at how the game had changed.
Dan scored just before half time with a well placed left foot shot into the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the box giving us a lift - 2-1 down at half time and still in with a good chance of getting something.
The second half was very eventful - They scored early on to make it 3-1 and we looked like losing.
All of a sudden we came alive - we scored 3 goals in the space of 10 mins - Ryan Taylor grabbing 2 poachers goals and Swabes with a nice finish catching the keeper napping at his near post.
4-3 up and we had them on the ropes.
We then pressed the self destruct button. We allowed the ball to go over our heads at the back way to often - and got caught following a misjudgment, leading to us conceded a penalty. They converted it to level.
They now were the better side again - coming at us in waves - and we let them panic us and made silly mistakes - the next goal came after we had an easy chance to clear wasnt taken and they took the lead.
The nail in the coffin was yet another mistake - playing a pass across our box straight to the feet of their player who fed in his team mate to make it 6-4.
We should have gone on to win after coming back from 3-1 down to 4-3 up - we should have controlled possession and dictated the pace of the game better. It may be the fact that I was forced to ref - and consequently couldnt coach or make relevant changes - that affected us most, but Fairwater played very well and took their chances when they came.

Under 15 Cup Quarter Final
FC Dragons 1 - 2 Pentwyn Dynamos
Foulkes, Willis
On paper this looked a good draw but I knew better than that, FC Dragons had already won the C Division, were unbeaten all season and had already knocked out A Division opposition in the cup this season. This was going to be tight, tough and no different to an A Division league match. We were missing Matty again plus Ryan and Matthew were unable to play as they were 'cup tied' having turned out for Llanedeyrn earlier in the season.
I was right and to be honest I was still surprised by how good FC Dragons were - and I think the boys were too as they bossed the early stages and we looked a little shell shocked.
We settled after a nervy first 10 mins and the game took shape. They were playing lots of long balls out from the back, but playing good football down the flanks and in the final third. They took a deserved lead with a wonderful goal from Connor (formerly of St Albans and clearly still still good enough to be with them).
Connor received the ball down the right went past a man and unleashed a bullet shot from 25 yards that flew past Brad before he could even see it!
I worried as to how the boys would react to going a goal down but it seemed to revive us. We started to get on the ball more and Chris was worrying them running down the right flank.
We got our equalizer from a corner - great delivery from Dan and a bullet header from Chaz. Game on!
1-1 at half time and they had shaded it in all honesty.
Chris had to come off at half time with a back injury - and I wondered if our depleted line up could cope with Dragons for another half like the first. I moved a few people around - Callum into midfield to link up with Dan and Ben to left back with licence to bomb forward. Swabes coming on the injured Chris.
The positional changes worked well - Callum got on the ball and along with Dan started to cause them more problems than they did us. We marked Connor better and limited his impact and forced them back.We looked more likely to win now and Dan nearly gave us the lead - his lob was tipped onto the bar by their keeper, who had a great game.
Dan's dead ball delivery was causing them problems as they conceded more free kicks as we pushed them back and his 30 yard free kick seemed destined for the top right hand corner but their keeper again made a wonderful save to keep them in it.
They were defending well and looked dangerous on the counter attack - and nearly re-took the lead with a nice low drive - only to see it come back off the post.
Our winner came from the aftermath of another corner - they failed to clear it and it dropped to Sam who hit a brilliant low drive into the bottom right hand corner - with his swinger! - to win us the match.
A great game that either side could have won but we just about did enough based on our second half performance to deserve the victory - and well earned place in the semi-finals.
FC Dragons are as good as most sides we have played in the league and would do well in the A Division. I predict them following in Butetown's footsteps and winning the B Division next season.

Whitchurch 2-1 Pentwyn Dynamos
B. Pomeroy
Always a battle against Whitchurch and there is never much between the teams - and it was the same again.
We were again missing Chris - as were they Mikey - both playing Rugby for Cardiff Schools. Matty was missing with illness also so Josh came in at right back.
We started really well and for the first 10 mins it was all us - Ryan hit the post and so nearly latched onto the rebound.
Whitchurch got going and won a series of corners that got their tails up. They had 3 good chances from these corners from which Brad made 2 great saves.
It was the 3rd chance that they scored from - a great finish smashed into the roof of the net leaving Brad with no chance.
We were playing well though - Dan was getting on the ball and making us tick, Chaz was winning the midfield battle, aided by Sam - and Ryan was running all the lines tirelessly. Whitchurch were their usual physical, well organised hard working selves and looked dangerous on the break.
We went back at them and Ryan hit the post again - so unlucky as he was looking a real threat every time we attacked.
Dan tweaked had groin and had to come off after 30 mins - so Swabes came on and we went 2 up front.
1 - 0 down at half time but still well in it - probably shaded the first half despite being a goal down.
The second half was a different match - we attacked in wave after wave and Whitchurch defended in numbers, hitting us with counter attacks through long balls over the top.
We eventually got our deserved equalizer - Ben Pomeroy with a lovely finish from the edge of the box into the top corner.
We were looking good now - Ryan went through time after time but they managed to get a last ditch tackle in or forced him too wide to get a shot away.
Matthew came on and impressed - winning countless balls in the air and playing some nice stuff on the deck also.
We got caught pushing forward for a winner - typical Whitchurch - long ball over the top with a suspicion of offside - but a superb finish from the corner of the area into the far corner of the net, a really well taken goal.
We threw the kitchen sink at Whitchurch for the last 15 mins - I went 3 at the back and pushed Huw up front, had a penalty shout as Ryan was hauled down but nothing given.
The two Whitchurch centre backs were immense and protected their lead for them so well - and although we lost to their only shot on target all second half, the quality of the goal deserved to win the match.
On another day we may well have won this but we lost to great defending and 2 extremely good goals.

Pentwyn Dynamos 0 - 6 St Albans
We battled so well for the first 25 mins and created a couple of chances - Ryan looking dangerous up front going close twice - but we shot ourselves in the foot by conceding a calamitous own goal. Lack of communication at the back lead to confusion between defender and keeper and the ball ended up in the back of net.
We continued to contain and press well but they scored again just before half time.
2 -0 at half time against the Leagues best side wasnt too bad and I wasnt too disappointed. We were missing Chris and Huw so I felt satisfied with our first half display.
We went out and continued stuck to our game plan and Ryan again went close - forcing a great save from Elliot in The Buns goal. The scored their 3rd early on and our heads went down a little from there.
We tired late on and Brad made some good saves but - as is so often the case against The Buns - they smelt blood and banged in 3 more to kill any faint hopes of a comeback.
