Llanedeyrn High School

Llanedeyrn Bulldogs 1 - 2 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                                    Willis
                                                                     Swabey

The big derby match - always an encounter - school friends and neighbours become rivals for 70 mins.
This match didnt disappoint - it was poised on a knife edge for the entire game. The first 20 mins were mainly contested in the midfield with both sides battling and holding their own. Few chances were created as both sides sounded each other out.

We took the lead on 25 mins when a ball over the top caught Llanedeyrn sleeping and Sam Willis was quickest to react - I say quickest but this felt to me as if it happened in slow motion! as Sam controlled the ball set himself and slotted the ball home.

The battle continued and Steffan Prytherch and Charlie Foulkes began to boss the midfield, giving the whole team confidence that came through in our football. Half time came and the score remained 0-1.

The second half was more open as chances began to happen for both sides but still the score remained 0-1.
Our defence held firm until Llanedeyrn scored a carbon copy goal of our opener - a ball over the top to Jacob Scott who made no mistake to level the score.

This was now a test of how much we wanted it, as for the first time in the match Llanedeyrn took charge. They were coming at us, looking dangerous and really testing our metal. Time for a change - Caine Morse coming on to add that extra bit of steel to the midfiled.

We found our second wind and began counter attacking with real purpose. Daniel Swabey had a chance to seal it but shot wide and it looked as though a stalemate was on the cards. Then Llanedeyrn had their chance - a stinging shot from the edge of the box excellently saved by Bradley Preece.

Another chance  for us - a Caine Morse volley looked goalbound but for a great save from Llanedeyrn keeper James Newman.

As the seconds ticked away - we were deep in injury time - a scramble on the edge of the area saw the ball bounce in front of Daniel Swabey. He steadied himself and sent off a rocket of a volley into the top left hand corner - winning the match and sealing all 3 points.

A truly memorable performance - our 4th match in 7 days - and thats the double over our neighbours this season.

Special mentions:

Steffan Prytherch and Charlie Foulkes - midfield maestros ran the show.
Bradley Preece - another commanding performance in goal.
Callum Patten - Wanted this victory so much and contributed greatly.
Daniel Swabey - I will remember that winning goal for a long time!
