Pentwyn Leisure Centre
Under 13 Cup 2nd Round
Pentwyn Dynamos 2 - 0 Rhiwbina Whites
Foulkes
Gibbins
A difficult fixture made even more so by us having the bare XI - we were missing Daniel Swabey, Steffan Prytherch, Sam Willis and Josh Harvey - so this was going to be a test.
And wasnt it just! Rhiwbina started well - fast, frantic and gave us no time on the ball and kept space to a minimum. They were the better side for the first 20 mins as we were rusty and caught cold (quite literally it was barely above freezing at time of kick off!!)
We began to play our passing game soon though and came into it more - Matty was especially good and they struggled to contain his pace. Danny was starting to get on the ball more and put Will through but his shot was well saved by the keeper. One of his runs down the left forced a corner.
Caine sent over a beautiful corner and Charlie got up highest and sent a bullet header into the back of the net for 1 nil on 30 mins.
We took control in the second half - Danny was having a great game and his quick feet were causing Rhiwbina all sorts of problems. Chris was linking up well with him and Matty - these three were enjoying themselves.
Rhiwbina continued to impress - they were quick, powerful and played some good football, they looked every inch an A Division side - hard to believe they arent. They attacked us on the break and always looked dangerous, they just couldnt create a clear opportunity as Sam Azu was tackling everything in the 2nd half!
Ellis was also impressive once again as his reading of the game saved us a few times.
The game was won when Danny received the ball with his back to goal, rolled his man to get into the box and slotted across the keeper and in off the post for 2 nil - a well deserved goal after a great 2nd half performance.
It was great to finally play again after 12 long weeks - well done boys a big effort under tricky circumstances - 3rd round here we come!
