Cardiff & District Under 14 A Division
Hailey Park, Llandaff North
Whitchurch 4 - 4 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                   Williams (2), Yeung, Gibbins
Its always difficult to play Whitchurch - they are big, strong and have a lot of quick players. The ball spends alot of time in the air as they play to their strengths and hit long balls up for Mikey to chase. This hasnt suited us the past few times we have met and we have lost. Today though we looked as though we had come to terms with the physical side of the game more and deserved at least a draw - we maybe even shaded it and might have done enough to win.
We were the better side for the first 25 mins and Whitchurch hasd their keeper to thanks for keeping them in the game - Lloyd made saves from Kieran, Danny, Chris and Cian (twice) and on another day we might have been a few goals to the good. We did  take the lead after good work from Ellis at the back - picking out Chris who slipped in Kieran and he made no mistake taking it past the keeper and firing home. Cian had to go off with an injury so Sam came on and got into the game quickly and worked hard. Whitchurch found their feet after this and quickly scoed with their first shot on goal - a well taken chip into the top corner.
We were visibly shaken by this and went awol for 10 mins - in which Whitchurch scored a dubious 2nd (a clear handball) and an excellent 3rd - after an amazing acrobatic attempt from Mikey had hit the bar they scored with a sweet volley into the corner. Half time and we found ourselves 3-1 down having bossed most of the half yet Whitchurch had taken 4 shots and scored 3 goals!
We went out for the 2nd half and did the same as the first - culminating in a goal that got us back into the game. Danny burst down the right flank, and Whitchurch didnt play to the whistle - they thought the ball had gone out of play but Danny kept going and had his shot saved. Matty pounced on the rebound with a well struck finish.
We were buzzing now and Kieran had another effort that went narrowly wide after rounding the keeper, Chris saw his great curling effort sail just past the post. We were stepping it up now and Charlie was dominating the middle of the park with tackle after tackle. Swabes was a willing worker as usual - up and down the wing - and was playing some lovely balls down the flank for Kieran.
Our back four of Callum, Ellis, Josh and Matty were looking strong and we didnt look like conceding.
We equalised with a great goal from Kieran - he received the ball with his back to goal on the corner of the box, turned and unleashed a thubderbolt past Lloyd in the Whitchurch goal.
Whitchurch always looked dangerous on the counter attack and they continued to send balls up for Mikey to chase - but good work from our defence kept it level.
We conceded a really unlucky 4th goal - a teasing freekick in to our box was deflected past Bradley by Ryan Pomeroy - who was extremely unfortunate - as he had come on for Josh and done so well. Ben Pomeroy had come on for Swabes to have well earned rest and Ryan Fry gave Matty a break also, So the whole squad was playing its part well.
We didnt let that goal get us down and kept going at them - and got a deserved equaliser. Chris got hold of the ball on the far left got to the byline and sent a cross in, Danny deflected it, Lloyd got a touch on it and the ball looped over him - Ellis and Danny both tried to make sure but the wind ended up doing it for them and it was 4-4!
A real 'ding - dong' of  a match and I was so proud of the boys for the whole performance.
I know we can be loud on the touchline, but we only support the boys - we are never abusive or disrespectful.I though the ref did pretty well, I only asked for free kicks if I believed we were due them and if he claims he didnt see the handball - I believe him. I think he must have thought otherwise though - A handshake would have been nice...I apologise if we were overly critical.
