Pentwyn Leisure Centre
Under 15 A Division
Pentwyn Dynamos 3 - 3 AFC Whitchurch
Viney (2), Gibbins
Our matches against Whitchurch are never dull - these two teams are so well matched you never know who will win - and there are always goals!
We started well and were slightly shading it but fell behind after a lack of communication at the back led to Mikey latching on to a lose ball and smacking it into the top right hand corner. Despite this we were looking good at the back - Matty and Callum both getting forward at every opportunity plus Huw and Ryan at centre back looked like they had played their together for years - you would never have known it was their first match together.
We never let our heads drop though and were soon back in it - eventually equalising through Chris - finishing well from just inside the box.
Whitchurch were always a threat and Mikey was looking up for it but we started to get at them through playing our passing game - Danny, Ben and Chris having chances but it remained 1-1 at half time.
We started the second half well and eventually took the lead through Chris with a lovely goal - he chested the ball down shifted it inside and cooly slotted home.
We looked confident now and the Whitchurch threat seemed to drop a little and we looked good for a win. We went 3-1 up with a well taken goal from Danny, drilling a left foot shot into the bottom left hand corner.
I take the blame for what happened next - Feeling the match was won and the need to get as many of my subs on as possible, I took off too many of our main men - and this lead to us losing our way.
Whitchurch smelt blood and went for us in a big way and we went from controlling the game to hanging on inside 10 minutes!
Mikey got one back with a great header - although I felt the crosser was offside, but these things happen.
With minutes left Mikey equalised getting on the end of a lovely freekick - the delivery was great - and he flicked it into the net.
After being 3-1 down this felt like 2 points dropped but on the balance of chances a draw was probably about right.
I wont be making hasty substitutions again - this division is way too competetive to assume you have won until the final whistle. Well played boys - this one was my fault.
