Match Report

Cardiff & District Under 15 A Division
Butetown Park
AFC Butetown 5 - 3 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                      B. Pomeroy, Viney, Gibbins

We knew this would be tough - but we stood up well to the test and were never imtimidated and should have come away with at least a point.
We bossed the first 20 minutes and  created 2 or 3 good chances - Chris and Swabes both having shots well saved and Chris shooting over. We deservedly took the lead through Ben Pomeroy. Daniel Swabey sending a lovely ball through for Ben to chase, round the keeper and pass into an empty net.
They found their feet and equalised with a good finish from the outstanding Niall Gray and it looked like it was going to be a close game.
5 minutes later Niall went through and our challenges were enough to put him off, he slipped and the ball ended in our keeper, Bradley's hands. Then unbelievably - the ref who was stood on the half way line gave a penalty! Our boys were obviously not happy and a little melee ensued in which one of their players attempted a head butt on one of our boys - nothing was done and they scored the penalty.
It was obvious now that our only chance of getting anything here would be by playing our football and dodging the over the top tackles that were going unpunished.
They scored again and it was 3-1 at half time.
We went out for the second half and really stood up to the test - Danny dribbled through and into the box, drew the keeper and squared it to Chris and we were back in it at 3-2.
Their only real threat was Niall and we stuggled to cope with him - he scored a brilliant 4th from an unbelievable angle and it looked like we might be done for.
We werent though - Chris went storming down the right whipped in a lovely ball and Danny got across his man and stabbed the ball past the keeper to get us back in with a chance again.
We were really pressuring them now and after good pressure we forced one of their players to lose possession and concede a throw. He decided that he didnt like this and marched up to one of our boys and appeared to head butt - the ref once again deciding to look the other way.
A lapse in concentration caused us to concede a 5th late on and the game was lost.
The only difference between the sides was Niall Gray - scoring 4 goals and was outstanding all match. They can count themeselves extremely lucky not to have had 2 men sent off though - and the penalty decision was the worst we have ever had given against us, so this left a bad taste in our mouths to say the least.
