Match Report

Saturday 9th February 2013

Pentwyn Leisure Centre

UNDER 15 A DIVISION

Pentwyn Dynamos 3 - 0 Butetown
Foulkes, McLaggon, Gibbins

This looked a really difficult one as Brad, our keeper, was away and we have no reserve keeper. Dan volunteered to go in goal for the first half - not ideal as he is top goalscorer! Huw stepped forward to do the second half - again not my choice as he is our main presence at the back. A big thank you to both of you guys!

The match was a  real battle from start to finish as expected - Butetown were their usual physical, intimidating selves but we knew what to expect this time having had the experience of a visit to their place earlier in the season. They came at us like a train for the first 10 mins and we did well to contain them, defending well and playing ourselves into the game.

We had a plan and set ourselves up to contain them and counter attack using our pace - and it worked.
I cant remember them having a shot on goal in the first half and we had several chances.

Ben went through but the ball took a nasty bobble just as he struck it and it went wide.
Chris burst through but their defender made a perfectly timed tackle just as he was about to pull the trigger.
Jared had a shot well saved - Sams effort from the edge of the box was well blocked also.

0-0 at half time and we had had more chances but we were pleased against such tough opposition.
Huw had a great first half at centre back and replaced Dan in goal for the second half - who came outfiled to his usual position behind our main striker Chris.

The second half began the same as the first - Butetown fired up and coming at us 100 miles per hour - but we kept calm, defended well and soaked it up. We again, came into it after 10 mins and proceeded to move forward.

Butetown did have a couple of real chances in the second half - Huw making an excellent save down to his right - and punching clear following a scramble in the area.

Our first goal came as Ben burst down the left and played in Jared - whose shot was parried but Charlie was following in to finish well.

We took the initiative now, knowing that 1 goal may not be enough and kept playing our football.
Our second goal came from the right hand side as Dan lifted the ball into the path of Jared, who controlled well and passed the ball past the stranded keeper.

We finished the game strongly and Dan latched onto a cross field ball from Chris to slot home under the keeper with the last real kick of the game.

A great win marred by ugly scenes at the final whistle as once again my players were threatened, chased and had to dodge punches and kicks instead of the more traditional hand shake.
