Marshfield Hall

Marshfield 2 - 5 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                Gibbins (3)
                                           Foulkes
                                           Harvey

After being notified at 6pm on Friday night that, although the parks were off, our match was on - it prompted some frantic phone calls! I did manage to get in touch with all concerned in time to watch to the rugby!

An improving Marshfield were a very different prospect to the team that had been heavily beaten in earlier games, and gave us an early scare hitting our post - which proved to be a wake up call.

We started to play our passing game, with Daniel Gibbins at the heart of it in behind the 2 strikers, Charlie Foulkes battling in midfield and Sam Willis running their defence ragged. We took the lead  when the ball dropped to the left of the penalty spot and Daniel Gibbins dinked a right footed shot into the corner.

Marshfield rallied and equalised with a headed goal from a great corner - aided by the two handed push in the back the ref didnt see (our Brian saw it though - prompting a little touchline input!).

It stayed 1-1 as we squandered several good chances, right up until the stroke of half time as the ball arrived at the feet of Ellis Dunsford who layed it off to Charlie Foulkes to stroke a beauty from 20 yards into the right corner for 2-1 at half time.

Half time changes made a big difference,  a welcome return to action for Christopher Viney - following 12 weeks out with a broken collar bone - and the introduction of Caine Morse, gave Marshfield alot more to think about and we soon took control of the match.

We were now buzzing, Gibbins and Viney linking well at every opportunity, Sam Azu and Owen Evans both excellent in the fullback positions, Charlie Foulkes and Caine Morse bossing the midfield and Lloyd Richards as cool as ever at Centre Back.

Good work Daniel Swabey down the left flank ended up with the ball dropping to Gibbins on the penalty spot and he made no mistake with a left foot finish -  3-1.

Josh Harvey was now getting more and more of the ball on the right hand side of midfield and he made his mark with the fourth goal coming in from the right hand corner of the box, slotting into the bottom left hand corner - thats 2 goals in his last 2 games!

A few more changes saw the introduction of Ryan Butler, Ben Price and Tom Hearn who took over in goal, following a solid display from Bradley Preece.

Tom Hearn was soon called into action and made an excellent save from a 25 yard thunder bolt, tipping the ball for a corner.

Ryan Butler was impressive every time he got the ball, always positive and looking to move forward, and good work from him down the left, laying off the ball to Sam Willis whose shot was well saved by the keeper, only for Daniel Gibbins to pounce on the rebound for his hat-trick and 5-1.

With the game now won, we switched off and allowed Marshfield more possesion and they made it 2-5 with one of the goals of the game with a fantastic 25 yarder into the top corner, which left Tom Hearn with no chance.

All in all - an excellent performance against a much improved Marshfield, 3 points and now third in the league - a good morning's work.

Special mentions -

Daniel Gibbins - a hat-trick and all round great peformance.
Owen Evans - nothing beat him at right back, well done OJ!
Sam Azu - a superb 2nd half at left back, you are listening now Sam and its working!
