Cardiff & District Under 15 A Division

Saturday 8th September 2012

Pentwyn Leisure Centre

Pentwyn Dynamos 4 - 2 Maindy Corries
Williams (2)
Willis
B. Pomeroy

This looked a difficult one as Maindy have always given us a hard match and we were missing Charlie, Chris and Ellis - 3 players who have all been player of the year in the past for us. Add to that the allocated ref didnt show - leaving me to ref and no coach on the line for the boys- it looked a tricky morning

We started well and soon took control of the game - the first 20 mins were played almost entirely in Maindy's half - we restricted them to the odd counter attack.

After seeing alot of the ball and several corners we finally broke the deadlock with a great goal - Sam took down a high ball, controlled it well and sent an unstoppable volley into the corner, leaving the keeper with no chance. We were playing some lovely stuff and never really looked in trouble. Callum and Sam was superb in the middle of the park, Danny an Ben were linking up constantly and Kieran was having his best performance since joining us - always a threat.

1 nil at half time - should have been more but we were wasteful in front of goal.

We started the second half the same as the first - a good thing as Maindy were more in it now.

We were soon 2 up - a really nice move. Danny took possession and went down the left, played it inside to Ben, he weighted a lovely ball through to Kieran, who slotted home through the keepers legs.

Maindy were rocked now and were arguing amongst themselves and goal number 3 came quickly.
Kieran made a lovely run across their backline and Ben played him in and he hit it across the keeper into the corner for 3 nil.

Ben made it 4 soon after with a neat finish after another nice move.

Within minutes Swabes went through - bursting into the box and was pushed from behind for the easiest penalty decision I will give all season. We missed the pen though and this seemed to kick start Maindy.

We were tiring now as we had only 1 sub - Ryan Fry coming on for the injured Sam and doing well - and it was time for our defence to come into the equation - Ryan and Josh were looking good and Matty and Jake were working their socks off in the full back positions. Brad hadnt had much to do but made some good saves in the last 15 mins as Maindy came back. They scored a good goal to make it 1-4 and we lost our heads for 10 minutes. A mix up in the area cost us a second goal but we regained our composure and saw the game out - could even have scored 2 or 3 more in the last 5 mins as Kieran hit the bar and Ben and Swabes went close.

A good start to the season as we caught Maindy cold - but they showed in the second half they are still a good side, so a good 3 points.
