Match Report

Under 15 Cup Round One

Saturday 22nd September

The Marl

Grangetown Athletic 1 - 3 Pentwyn Dynamos
                                           Williams
                                                     McLaggon
                                                     Gibbins

This looked like a great draw - C Division side, a chance to give everyone lots of playing time and a guaranteed place in the next round - I couldnt have been more wrong!

My old mate Ramos knows how I like to play and set his boys up so well to stop it - they closed us down contstantly, never gave us time on the ball and counter attacked really well.

You couldnt tell Grangetown Athletic were a C Division side at all - I would predict them doing very well this season. It was tight all game and we never got going - but we did take the lead after 30 mins. Danny laid it off to Kieran and he drilled a low shot under the keeper.

In the second half we improved and created lots of chances - Danny and Kieran might have a had a hatrick each but Grangetown kept themselves in it and the longer it stayed 1-0 the more I felt they could equalise - they hit the post and we should have taken that as our warning.

Their back four were so well organised - George Graham would have been proud! we were getting caught offside way too often as they kept a great line and when we did get through we missed!

With 20 minutes to go Grangetown got their goal - a deserved one on the balance of play too - and try as we might it was 1-1 at full time.

So extra time it was then and this could go either way as the game was now end to end.

The first period ended still level and it was 10 mins away from penalties!

We upped it a bit in the second period but so did Grangetown and it was only 2 good pieces of play that won it for us:

We won a corner that Danny took quickly - catching them asleep. He played the ball to Jared who cut inside and smashed in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.

It was Danny then who ensured of the victory chipping the keeper from just outside the box - with a little help from the wind!

Grangetown Athletic were fantatstic and didnt deserve to lose - its a shame that this wasnt a league match as a draw would have been a fair result after 90 mins.
