Fairwater Juniors 1 - 2 Pentwyn Dynamos
Gibbins, Foulkes
Always a difficult one, Fairwater away - and with them doing so well this season it looked like Today would be no different.
We started the better of the 2 sides and created several chances early on - Danny went close, Chaz headed over and Sam, Jared and Callum all had shots on goal.Jared was a constant threat down the left and kept taking it to them down the flank - linking well with Danny and Callum - who was loving a free role for the day!
We eventually took the lead with a lovely goal - Chaz received the ball just inside our half cut inside and played a slide rule pass through to Danny, who was on the shoulder of the last man. Danny went through, drew the keeper and poked it past him into the bottom right hand corner to score in the fifth consecutive game.
A deserved lead but we just couldnt get the elusive second. Fairwater only had 2 shots on our goal in the first half and unfortunately they both came in the same passage of play - and lead to us conceding!
They had a corner that fell to one of their players, who struck a fierce shot that Brad saved really well - but we were ball watching and they tapped in the rebound.
The second half was much closer - Fairwater took the game to us more and it could have gone either way.
Bradley made a couple of good saves as they pressed us but we are looking good at the back these days - especially thanks to Huw, who had another great game and kept it tight along with Ben, Ryan P. and Matty.
Sam and Chaz were battling well in midfield and kept us in it with their dogged and energetic displays.
Chaz had a header struck the bar and bounce on - or possibly over - the line but the ref allowed play to go on. Chaz did get his deserved goal to win for us though - he passed it wide to Swabes, who held the ball up really well and weighted a great pass for Chaz to smash in to make it 2-1 with his 3rd goal of the season.
Josh, Ryan F.and Jake came on to give us fresh legs and both never stopped running , working hard for the team tracking back and breaking up the play as Fairwater pressed for an equaliser.
They nearly got it right at the death as they went through and put the ball in the net - but the ref had blown before the shot for a push on Matty.
Great result against a good side.

AFC Butetown 5 - 3 Pentwyn Dynamos
B. Pomeroy, Viney, Gibbins
We knew this would be tough - but we stood up well to the test and were never imtimidated and should have come away with at least a point.
We bossed the first 20 minutes and created 2 or 3 good chances - Chris and Swabes both having shots well saved and Chris shooting over. We deservedly took the lead through Ben Pomeroy. Daniel Swabey sending a lovely ball through for Ben to chase, round the keeper and pass into an empty net.
They found their feet and equalised with a good finish from the outstanding Niall Gray and it looked like it was going to be a close game.
5 minutes later Niall went through and our challenges were enough to put him off, he slipped and the ball ended in our keeper, Bradley's hands. Then unbelievably - the ref who was stood on the half way line gave a penalty! Our boys were obviously not happy and a little melee ensued in which one of their players attempted a head butt on one of our boys - nothing was done and they scored the penalty.
It was obvious now that our only chance of getting anything here would be by playing our football and dodging the over the top tackles that were going unpunished.
They scored again and it was 3-1 at half time.
We went out for the second half and really stood up to the test - Danny dribbled through and into the box, drew the keeper and squared it to Chris and we were back in it at 3-2.
Their only real threat was Niall and we stuggled to cope with him - he scored a brilliant 4th from an unbelievable angle and it looked like we might be done for.
We werent though - Chris went storming down the right whipped in a lovely ball and Danny got across his man and stabbed the ball past the keeper to get us back in with a chance again.
We were really pressuring them now and after good pressure we forced one of their players to lose possession and concede a throw. He decided that he didnt like this and marched up to one of our boys and appeared to head butt - the ref once again deciding to look the other way.
A lapse in concentration caused us to concede a 5th late on and the game was lost.
The only difference between the sides was Niall Gray - scoring 4 goals and was outstanding all match. They can count themeselves extremely lucky not to have had 2 men sent off though - and the penalty decision was the worst we have ever had given against us, so this left a bad taste in our mouths to say the least.

AFC Rumney Juniors 0 - 6 Pentwyn Dynamos
Mclaggon(2), Chadwick,Pomeroy,
Foulkes,Gibbins
A straightforward victory in a game that we ran from start to finish. Credit to Rumney - They made it difficult and worked hard, closed us down and were extremely physical but our passing and movement were superior.
We went 1 up through Jared - pouncing onto a loose ball and finishing well. Huw made it two with a 25 yarder that the keeper got a hand to but it still flew in - Huws first goal for us. We created lots of chances and Danny went close with a free kick - the keeper saving well in the top right hand corner.
2-0 at half time - should have been more but happy enough.
We were more cilnical in the second half but still should have had scored more than we did - Charlie hit the bar, Swabes hit the post and Danny had an effort well saved.
Charlie scored with a powerful shot that the keeper got a hand to but the force was too strong and it still went in.
Ben got a deserved goal after another great performance finishing well low into the corner.
Jared got his second following in after Dannys shot was parried and he headed past the keeper from close range.
Danny finished the scoring off with a nice individual effort - bursting into the box and dribbling through their defenders and finishing from a tight angle.

Pentwyn Dynamos 3 - 0 Marlboro Sports Black
Foulkes, Gibbins, B. Pomeroy
A great performance and thoroughly deserved victory. We started strongly, built on that and gradually took control of the match.
We went ahead through Charlie with a fantastic strike - Jared held the ball up well and passed inside to Charlie - 25 yards out he set it and unleashed a superb shot over the keeper and into the net. We knew Marlboro had been on a bad run and looked to capitalize on any heads dropping - the boys kept going at them and we were soon 2 up. Danny cutting inside and scoring a carbon copy of the first goal - 25 yards out and over the keeper.
2 nil up at half time, we were looking good and they hadnt had a shot on target. Huw had been magnificent at the back along with Callum, Matty and Ryan they had snuffed out the Marlboro threat. Charlie had won the midfield battle aided by Sam - a willing worker all morning. Danny was pulling the strings and feeding Ben down the left - who was running them ragged. Swabes was having a great game and Jared was always available.
The second half was closer as Marlboro started to look more like their usual selves - Bradley making a great double save to keep a clean sheet.
We continued to look dangerous though - Ben Pomeroy in particular was a constant threat and got a deserved goal to put us 3 up. Danny sent through one to chase and Ben latched onto it and went across the box and tucked a low shot under the keeper top seal the 3 points.
Our best 90 mins in a long time and we must build on this.

Pentwyn Dynamos 3 - 3 AFC Whitchurch
Viney (2), Gibbins
Our matches against Whitchurch are never dull - these two teams are so well matched you never know who will win - and there are always goals!
We started well and were slightly shading it but fell behind after a lack of communication at the back led to Mikey latching on to a lose ball and smacking it into the top right hand corner. Despite this we were looking good at the back - Matty and Callum both getting forward at every opportunity plus Huw and Ryan at centre back looked like they had played their together for years - you would never have known it was their first match together.
We never let our heads drop though and were soon back in it - eventually equalising through Chris - finishing well from just inside the box.
Whitchurch were always a threat and Mikey was looking up for it but we started to get at them through playing our passing game - Danny, Ben and Chris having chances but it remained 1-1 at half time.
We started the second half well and eventually took the lead through Chris with a lovely goal - he chested the ball down shifted it inside and cooly slotted home.
We looked confident now and the Whitchurch threat seemed to drop a little and we looked good for a win. We went 3-1 up with a well taken goal from Danny, drilling a left foot shot into the bottom left hand corner.
I take the blame for what happened next - Feeling the match was won and the need to get as many of my subs on as possible, I took off too many of our main men - and this lead to us losing our way.
Whitchurch smelt blood and went for us in a big way and we went from controlling the game to hanging on inside 10 minutes!
Mikey got one back with a great header - although I felt the crosser was offside, but these things happen.
With minutes left Mikey equalised getting on the end of a lovely freekick - the delivery was great - and he flicked it into the net.
After being 3-1 down this felt like 2 points dropped but on the balance of chances a draw was probably about right.
I wont be making hasty substitutions again - this division is way too competetive to assume you have won until the final whistle. Well played boys - this one was my fault.

Rhiwbina Black 5 - 0 Pentwyn Dynamos
Always one of the hardest matches - and Today was no different but the scoreline flattered Rhiwbina.
The first half was really tight with few chances for either side as the midfield contested the majority of the first period. Danny and Ben were linking well down the left hand side and Charlie was running the midfield in tandem with Huw who was looking good also.
Ellis and Ryan were playing really well at centre back - and both full backs Callum and Matty were on song so everything felt good.
We fell behind to an unstoppable shot from Alfie which flew into the top corner a few minutes before halftime.
Right on half time Jared was brought down and we had won ourselves a chance to equalise with a penalty - which we missed! our third penalty this season and we have now missed them all!
The second half was close again for the first 15 minutes and you felt we might just grab that equaliser.
It never came though and Rhiwbina took complete control as they threw on a few of their big guns Tony had rested from the starting line up. Aftwer the second goal went in our heads went down and making several substitutions weakened us - the match finishing 5 nil.
The penalty miss was critical for me - had we scored it, we would have run them alot closer. Rhiwbina will be the ones to press St Albans again this season.

This looked like a great draw - C Division side, a chance to give everyone lots of playing time and a guaranteed place in the next round - I couldnt have been more wrong!
My old mate Ramos knows how I like to play and set his boys up so well to stop it - they closed us down contstantly, never gave us time on the ball and counter attacked really well.
You couldnt tell Grangetown Athletic were a C Division side at all - I would predict them doing very well this season. It was tight all game and we never got going - but we did take the lead after 30 mins. Danny laid it off to Kieran and he drilled a low shot under the keeper.
In the second half we improved and created lots of chances - Danny and Kieran might have a had a hatrick each but Grangetown kept themselves in it and the longer it stayed 1-0 the more I felt they could equalise - they hit the post and we should have taken that as our warning.
Their back four were so well organised - George Graham would have been proud! we were getting caught offside way too often as they kept a great line and when we did get through we missed!
With 20 minutes to go Grangetown got their goal - a deserved one on the balance of play too - and try as we might it was 1-1 at full time.
So extra time it was then and this could go either way as the game was now end to end.
The first period ended still level and it was 10 mins away from penalties!
We upped it a bit in the second period but so did Grangetown and it was only 2 good pieces of play that won it for us:
We won a corner that Danny took quickly - catching them asleep. He played the ball to Jared who cut inside and smashed in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.
It was Danny then who ensured of the victory chipping the keeper from just outside the box - with a little help from the wind!
Grangetown Athletic were fantatstic and didnt deserve to lose - its a shame that this wasnt a league match as a draw would have been a fair result after 90 mins.

This is always a very difficult match - The Buns are the strongest team in the league, they havent lost a match since Under 13s and we knew what to expect.
We battled hard and kept it at 0-0 for 25 mins and broke several times ourselves and might have scored and a couple of occasions.
We gave a way a sloppy first goal and a mistake at the back caused the second. A third and fourth followed and we found ourselves four-nil down at half time.
A better performance in the second half saw us only concede a further two goals and in all honesty I was fairly pleased with how we battled and made them work for it. Our best chance to score was when Charlie hit the post with a great effort - unfortunatley we just didnt get that bit of luck.

This looked a difficult one as we were missing 5 first team players through a mixture of rugby and unavailability so I wasnt expecting a stroll in the park - and it wasnt!
Phil sets his boys up well and they play to their strengths - Imposing, physical and long balls up to their big men up top. They came at us at 100 mph and took a deserved lead - although slight suspicions of offside - after 10 mins and we found ourselves on the back foot.
We slowly found our rhythm and started our passing game and began to look ourselves again. Ellis was winning more in the air than their big striker which settled us down at the back and Danny and Jared began to see more of the ball up front.
Then disaster struck - their left winger hit a speculative ball into the box, the wind took it and it flew into the top corner! we were 2 nil down and it wasnt looking like our day.
Danny had a shot just over the bar and another just wide but we still found ourselves 2 nil down.
Minutes later Ben burst into the box and was hauled down for a penalty - and we missed it! it wasnt looking good for us.
Minutes into the second half Rhiwbina sent a dangerous cross into the box which we failed to deal with it and it ended up flying off a head into the net - own goal and 3 nil down!
We kept playing our passing game though - and you felt that if we could just get one....
20 minutes to go and we were awarded a free kick around 25 yards out. Indirect - Callum lays it off to Danny and he sent it into the top corner! 3-1 and we just went on from there.
They were rattled now and we got another almost straight away - Swabes received the ball in the inside right channel, went past a man and chipped the keeper. 3-2 and we were thinking of a comeback for real now!
Danny received the ball on the half way line and picked out Jared making a great run, he still had it all ot do as the keeper came out he chipped him to make it 3-3. A nice moment for Jared on his debut and against his old team.
Their heads were down now and we came at them again and again and I knew if we could just get that one more chance we would win it.
We were awarded another free kick - could have been a penalty - on the edge of the box. Danny stepped up again and bent it into the top right hand corner to win it 4-3!
A great come back and a deserved win as we played all the football, but fair play to Rhiwbina they gave us a real battle and they will do the same to alot of teams this season.
