Pentwyn Leisure Centre
Pentwyn Dynamos 2-3 Fairwater Juniors
Viney, Gibbins
A game of two halves to say the least. We ran the show for the first 25 mins - Chris was getting down the right and giving them a real problem with his pace and he opening the scoring with a fantastic curling effort from outside the box that flew over the keeper to put us 1 nil up.
It was Chris down the right again that started the move for our second - he went past his man and sent over a cross-cum-shot that the keeper parried but Danny was there to pounce and make it 2 nil.
We had restricted Fairwater to one shot from a free kick that went way over and looked in control.
We then went to sleep - a cross from the right was watched by at least 3 of our players, allowing their man on the back post to set himself and volley into the back of our net - an excellent finish but had the cross been dealt with properly he never would have had the time to execute it.
Half time and 2-1 up - I told the boys that concentration was key and we must go at them straight away as the next goal could well be key.
So we sat back, stopped playing and allowed Fairwater to boss it from then on!!!
They soon equalised - the same problem from our point of view as a cross was sent over that could have been dealt with by 3 or 4 players - but we watched it and they had 2 players at the back post that were fighting to score.
5 mins later we were 3-2 down as we lost posession in midfield, failed to get behind the ball quick enough and then allowed a tame shot to wriggle over the line - despite a valiant effort by Ellis as he nearly crashed into the post, but he just couldnt stop it going over the line.
3-2 down and we started to dig in a little bit but the boys seemed to struggle to find a team mate with a pass - as Fairwater closed down, hassled and harried really well.
We might have nicked a point as we did have chances - Danny shooting over from just inside the box and Ellis had a shot that went agonisingly wide late on.
Fairwater deserved the win after a great comeback - they wanted it more and went for us when they saw us flagging, but yet again we beat ourselves, this is the second time we have let a 2 goal lead slip at home - seemingly thinking the match is won and just switching off.
Our bright sparks Today were Matty - tireless as ever - and Swabes who stopped their winger all morning, tracking back at every time of asking.
